| | I saw a Bengal at the TICA show in Nashua. I believe he had
cost $2000. They are gorgeous. And I saw that show too!

| | Yes, the TICA International show was on for an hour. Nice to
see Jimmy Reardon and himself, Mr. Bob Forte again!

| | Lynne,

I fell in love with the Bengal that was at the Nashua show (the one
that Nancy mentioned). As soon as I saw it, I said "That my next
cat !!". That is until I found out the price. The cat was gorgeous.
He was $2000 but you can buy a pet quality for $900 which is still
steep. They sure are beautiful though. The guy took him out for me
and let me pat him. Some day!

| | Very interested in getting more information about the Bengal
breed. Did anyone get a card from the Nashua Cat show with
an address or telephone number? Went to the cat show in
Manchester, but missed the latest one in Nashua. Would appreciate
    any info. if possible.
Have a Lynx point Siamese Oriental, but would loooooooove
    one of these!

    Thanks, Nancy

| | Hi Nancy

    I didn't take a card, mainly because I don't have $900-$2000 to spend
on a cat. I believe the guy was from Connecticut. (Big help right).

This cat was pretty big, very muscular, huge paws, and very wild
looking. I flipped out when I saw him and kept going back to look
at him. He was Gorgeous! I believe he was gray/silver with black
spots (correct me if I'm wrong Nancy or Cindy). I don't know if they
    come in other colors.

Right now I have a Abysinnian (I love the wild looking breeds). It
would be great to get a Bengal too.

| | Talk about baby kitties -- the latest issue of Smithsonian
Magazine has (on page 23 if I remember correctly) the first
baby tiger produced by artificial insemination (or
something), anyway a major cute baby, about the size of a
    pussycat, liking someone's face off.

| | I think that the Bengals are still considered under New Breeds and
Colors in TICA (that would be the CFA equivalent of AOV). They
are very rare. There is a woman out here in California that supposedly
started up the breeding program for them. They do have some wild
ancestors way back in their pedigrees. She wanted to create a cat
that had some wild tendencies, but still had the temperament of
    a domestic cat.

| | Anyone who has a catalog from that show - Kate? Cindy? will have
the addresses listed of all exhibitors. They should be able to find
the name and address of the gentleman with the Bengal for you. And
I believe he was colored similar to a leopard. Sort of brown/gold
    with black spots.

| | From an article I read in some magazine at my vets:
The Bengal is a cross between domestic cats and a small wild
cat. The breedings are very unproductive, and there are very few
males born that are NOT "mules" -- so far, the number of BREEDING hybred males
can be counted on your hands. These cats have wild ancestry VERY recently --
you apparently cannot get the nice markings without breeding back to the wild
cat every other generation or something like that -- and are NOT
(according to this article) good pets for families with small children or
even other cats. They also were reported to have some health issues and
were termed "exotic" and "delicate" pets.
The source wild cats (from South America or Africa) are considered endangered,
and there was some concern expressed in this article that the attempt to
breed Bengals will bring more pressure to bear on the limited number of cats
left in the wild because the wild cats are so necessary to hold the
markings of the hybreds.
I prefer to avoid any contact with wild cats -- they are all becoming
endangered so fast - when I want something that looks wild, I'll take an
American-bred ocicat....it won't try to eat me or my other cats.
