    Hi,

Last Wednesday we had a visitor. She is a long-haired calico.
Light beige, with some black on her back and some white. She did
a great job with the black eyeliner :-)

She's a real cutie. We've been feeding her. She was very hungry
and thin and is finally getting back into shape. I'd say she's
    about 9 months old.

The problem is that she's still hanging around our house. I
was hoping that once she got back into shape she'd go "home." Maybe
she doesn't have one. The other thing is Sasha isn't particularly
fond of having this other attraction around. Sasha is our 8 year
    old calico.

The most important problem though, is that my children are allergic
to cats. Since this is a long-hair there is really NO WAY we can
keep her (much as we'd all love to). My youngest has asthma and
the cat allergy triggers the asthma.

    	*** as a side note ***

We're doing our best to keep my daugheter and Sasha apart since
I really don't want to get rid of my 8 year old cat. She's almost
as much a part of our family as my daughter! (Of course, if it
came right down to it, I'd have to give Sasha up for adoption.)

     	*** back to original ***

Sorry this is getting so wordy!

Anyway, what I'd like to know from you folks is:

    	1. How can I find out if this cat is "lost" since it showed
up at my door and I didn't pick it up at a specific area?
(I know all the neighborhood cats and this is a new one.)

    	2. If I can't find her rightful owner, then would anyone here
be interested in adopting a beautiful cat? She has a wonderful
temperment (in fact she's "nicer" than Sasha in some ways).

Again, sorry this got so long, but I've never had a cat just
show up at my house before.

| 3920.1 | put AD in paper | WILLEE::MERRITT | Mon Aug 20 1990 12:08 | 16 | |
| Within a year I have had two experiences with kitty's showing up
at our doorstep. In both cases we put an Ad in our local newspaper
stating we found a kitty (give brief description) in the XXXXX area
    (name the street/city)

In one case we found out that the kitty was a neighborhood stray
that a few people use to feed....We kept him. And in the other
case a little old man called and was so excited because we found
his baby. The reunion between the two was great....I cried and
    cried!

Try putting an ad...maybe you will have luck.

| Leave out a significant detail or two in the ad so you can be assured that
anyone claiming the cat really is the cat's human. Pick something that
only someone who knows the cat would know about it.

Thanks, I'll try that. (Even though I don't think that my husband
is really crazy about spending the $$$ for an ad.)

| Before trying the Ad why don't you put signs around your neighborhood,
and/or in a local store stating you found a kitty. You can add a brief
description, but I do like what Nancy suggestion and holding back on
    a unique identifier.

I had to pay $8 for the Ad, but it was well worth it when we found
the owner. Sometimes they will offer to pay you back.
