| | When I first got my Ruby who is a White Oriental, I suddenly noticed a
red and oozy sort of raw patch on her chin. Just shy of hysteria I
brought her to the vet. They diagnosed Kitty Acne too! After I went
through the special shampoo it cleared up perhaps in less than a week.
Today her chin is fine and all hair replaced. I would suggest a couple
of things though. Feed her from a shallow or saucer type plate and
preferably one that is china (not plastic). Wash this with soap and
water after each feeding. Then you could also check once in a while to
see how her chin is doing and perhaps bathe it with a damp facecloth
    once a week.

My vet book also says that if this appears to be caused by a sebum
problem, you can use selsun blue to cleanse the area. I would make
sure I diluted it first and then RINSED WELL. Just in case!

    Good Luck

| | It takes a while for fur to grow back. You should start seeing a
tiny bit of growth in a few weeks or so, if I recollect correctly
from when my pusses have been shaved for operations.

| | My Willy had a few broken whiskers when we first got him also. They
grew back after about a month or two - I can't remember exactly. I
wouldn't worry about those too much!

As to a previous reply - is it better to use glass or china bowls for
    feeding as a rule?

    Thanks,
    Sonia

| | glass vs. china: The idea is to avoid plastic, which can cause
feline acne. My guys have glass water bowls and china dishes. ("They're
woth it.") I'm sure Preshie et all eat off only wedgewood :-)

Geez, I don't expect to see china for *myself* in this lifetime! :-)
My guys get to eat from 20+ year-old Anchor Hocking glass dishes and
drink from a Pyrex glass loaf pan.
I gave up using plastic dishes for my cats years ago, though they'd
had no problems with feline acne. Though I washed it thoroughly, the
plastic just never seemed really clean, and I know it retains odors.

You can buy separate English bone china saucers plus teacups in knicknack
stores for not much. I have some from my couth phase; now I use the
saucers as food dishes for the cats.

| | Feline acne is a pain! There are two things you can try - (sorry
if this is a repeat , I didn't read the notes after this)

    1. Boric Acid powder - CVS carries it in the eye section of the store.

    2. Betadine - comes in a small bottle -

both work - I'd wash the area with the betadine, and then put on the
    boric acid.

| | Well, re the china - my cats, have been using stainless steel for
at least 5 years and I still see a very small bit of acne . I
dunno - it's a devlish thing to clear up, but when it does,
most times you won't see it again - if you continue treatment
    for a long enough time.

My two, PIT (Princess in Training) Panther & JP (Just plain) Spot, eat
out of kitty crocks. They are the color of bricks and can be washed in
the dishwasher. :-) Spot thinks they are fine, ("But couldn't you put
mor in them Mummie?" Panther would prefer to use my Lenox china with the
Platinum edge. Sigh, sometimes I give in.

Feline good about spoiled rotten Cats, :-)

| | I had Feline Acne trouble with my white Oriental also.
Discontinuing the plastic feeding bowls did more than
anything else to clear up the problem. It's been about
four months now, and her chin looks fine.

RE: Whiskers. Belle's have just about finished growing
back from an eye operation back in February. It takes a
    while.

| | I also have the same problem with sweetie. Here's the remedy I use.

As said before, use only glass bowls. No plastic at all.
If the black acne gets bad on the chin, take a few cotton balls and
soak them in witch hazel. Then soak the chin. take a flea comb to it
afterward and all of the black stuff should comb right out. It's not
bad. We usually do it to sweetie about once per month.
