3733.0. "Some days it DOES pay to get out of bed!" by BOOVX2::MANDILE () Fri Jun 22 1990 15:16
I had lunch today with a non-animal person. (and because
I just took the Communication Skills class, was able to
keep myself from *flaming on* because of his opinions! :-))

He didn't understand why I would pay $380 in vet bills to
save one of my cats. I had three others, so why spend the $$$.
I asked him if he would spend it to save his son, and he
said "Yes, of course." Well, to me, they are just as important
and they are *my* family. He understood. His wife is the
same way. During lunchbreak at the class Weds, 3 of us
had lunch together. Two of us where animal nuts, both with
4 cats. The other person couldn't comprehend why we were both
so *intense* on animal rights and having so many. (We both
agreed 4 cats where not enough! :-))
Anyway, we both were able to get the point across without being
obnoxious about it. The gist-"It's a living, feeling creature
and is not a disposable item, nor was it put on earth to be starved,
or used as a punching bag. (his words, too!)

Sometimes it DOES pay to try.
