    Your entry form should list the cage size on it, so that you can
    figure out how much material you will need to cover the top, three
    sides, and the bottom of the cage for Rex.  If it isn't on the flyer,
    call the entry clerk and ask her for dimensions.  Cage sizes vary
    depending on what part of the country you are showing in.
     
    Kittens are judged against the written standard for the breed, and
    then against other kittens in their color class.  Kitten wins do
    not go towards championships.  All wins that are made in kitten
    class are separate from championship awards.
    
    If you cannot go on Sunday, that is okay.  At the end of the day,
    you should tell the master clerk that you will be absent the following
    day so that she can notify all the ring clerks.  That will save
    them from having to third call you to the rings, and then mark you
    absent.

    There will be several of us "Feliners" at the show this weekend, so I'm
    sure we will be able to help you and answer any questions that you
    might have.
    
    Usually a full size sheet will be enough to cover the size and bottom
    of the cage, or several large towels will work.  The cage size is
    usually 22 x 22 x 22 or 22 x 25 x 22.
    
    Also, you'll want to bring food and water, and maybe a toy or bed that
    Rex will be comfortable with.  Something that reminds him of home.

    Don't forget a towel to cover the top of the cage also, and some
    clothes pins to hold the sheet on.  You will need food and water
    DISHES for your baby - we mostly receive some samples of food, but
    you probably will want to bring what he is used to eating or a jar
    or two of baby food so his tummy won't blow up afer he eats.
    
    Also bring comfortable walking shoes, maybe a sweater for yourself,
    things to eat and drink for yourself (show hall food is sometimes
    costly and sometimes not very good), lots of reading material (we
    sometimes have long waits in between rings), your baby's favorite
    toys (small) or you can do lots of shopping at the show hall, I'm
    sure lots of vendors will be present.  The show committee usually
    provides litter boxes and litter.  If they don't, you can get one
    for $2.00 from a vendor.  I used to bring my own, but don't anymore.
    I would remind you to bring your grooming tools, but I have a feeling
    (cause I own a Rex, or shall I say a Rex owns me and my soul) that you
    won't need much for grooming!!  Sorry to run on, but I like to be
    comfy at shows cause we spend so many hours there.

    the last names on them.  Look for the following last names:

Does there need to be any kind of sign on the cage...such as the cats name.

Would we be required to stay the whole day if our the judging ends for
the kitten early on?

Ohterwise were all set to go.

    You don't have to put a sign on your cage unless you wish to.
    Basically, you can decorate your cage with pretty much anything
    you would like to use.
    
    If you finish early, procedure is to ask permission of the
    show manager to leave before the advertised closing time,
    which is "usually" 5 pm (sometimes 4 pm on Sundays).
    
    As to your other question, your Rex kitten will be judged with
    the other Rex kittens, if there are any, if not, he will be judged
    against the Rex breed standard, which he would be if there WERE other
    Rex kittens there.

I look forward to the show.   We will be there under the name Benzakein (My
wifes maden name).  Cats name is Jaris-Rex (sounds like a prehistoric 
creature!). Ill try to clip my Dec_feliners badge onto the cage for easy id.

    Remember, with kittens it's different.
    
    When the kittens have completed judging and finals are complete, even
    if it's noon, you can go home without permission from the Show Manager. 
    Cats in any other class must stay till the advertised closing or get
    permission to leave.

    Cin, do they really know if you have left early?  I mean, lots of
    times I know for sure my cat will not get into the finals so I go.
    This weekend, Murdock will be an open in premiership.  Once he is
    done being judged and hopefully gets his winners ribbons, I don't
    expect him to final, especially as an open and and especially at
    a campaigners show.  I just might leave once the preliminary judgings
    are through.
    
    So, my question is, will anyone *really* know we are gone?

    If you make a final, and have left without the permission of the show
    manager, all wins for that show can be "voided".
    
    So, if your going to leave early, and your not going to ask permission,
    be damn sure your not going to be called anywhere.  
    
    Also, on a 2 day show, they will sometimes change the judging schedule
    around.  (depends on the type of show mostly)  Anyway, this weekend, I
    was scheduled for 3 rings on Saturday, and 3 rings on Sunday.  But,
    they had a schedule change, and I ended up in 4 rings on Saturday.  If
    I had left early, I may have missed that extra ring.

    Look for the DEC Feliner badges.  I usually attach mine to my cage, I
    guess maybe I figure people are really coming to meet my cat, not me!

    	pardon my ignorance, but are spectators encouraged?  Is there an
    
    entry fee for spectators? - Chris, who has never been to a cat show but 
    				lives about 4 miles from Box. Sher.

    Yup, entry fees for spectators run about $3 to $5, depending on
    the show.
    
    Lots of fun once you get inside!!  There'll be lots of Maine Coons
    there to look at too, Chris.

    Roberta, if they like your cat, Open or not, if he takes a Best of
    Breed, he could final.  Maybe Premiership is different, but it's
    show courtesy to ask permission of leave.  Permission is almost
    always granted.
    
    Edd, no, ya can't touch the cats, unless the onwers let ya.  Also,
    check the end of rows signs with the last names on them to find
    Feliner's - or look for flat faced cats!

    Roberta, Westie finaled three times in Allbreed rings when he was
    an open, so don't get into too big of a hurry to leave!!  This weekend,
    a bluepoint Birman open in premiership finalled in two out of four
    rings, stranger things have happened.
    
    The reason that they don't want to let the exhibitors leave is that
    the spectators have to pay to get in to see the cats.  Once one
    person starts packing up to leave, they usually start a chain reaction
    and everyone starts packing up.  That leaves lots of empty cages
    for the spectators to pay to see.  Anyway, clubs need the income
    that the get from the gate, so I like to make sure that they get
    it.  In our area, they will not grant permission for anyone to leave
    early unless they are a kitten entry.
    
    Our local Birman club fines any Birman who is called to a final
    and isn't there to receive the win!  That virtually eliminated the
    problem of the Birman folk leaving early from the showhall. :^)

    re: specators and cameras _ Spectators are more than welcome at the
    shows. You'll find that some of the exhibitors *L*O*V*E* to talk to
    folks about their cats (like me!) and others prefer to be left alone.
    its always nice to ask to take a picture, but not necessary.  If
    you are going to take pictures of the judges, I think I'd ask the
    ring clerk if its ok.  Never talk directly to the judge.  Also, stay
    out of the judging rings.  The only folks allowed there are the
    judges, ring clerks and exhibitors carrying cats to and from.
    Also, RULE #1 NEVER NEVER NEVER TOUCH A CAT WITHOUT PERMISSION.
    Its not so much that folks are afraid you'll get bitten, but rather
    that you could transmit disease from one cat to many others.  As
    anyone with a multi-cat household knows, this could be a disaster.

    Edd, I think what you mean is that YOU will pay the 5.00...
        If HRH ever got wind that a feline was offering to pay for
    any expenses ,there could be a major feline uprising..according
    to HRH(and her "atty Argus J. Pussycat ESQ.) all monetary
    expenditures are the sole responsibiblity of the kitty
    parent(s). tee-hee
