| I know about this because I've just done it! (and I had no idea
before).
You take one small bottle and one syringe. You then isolate the
cat with a litter tray containing a very small amount of litter,
and/or a little shredded paper. Wait till the cat goes (he or she
won't appreciate the nearly empty tray much, but there you are),
then use the syringe to transfer some of the contents of the tray
to the bottle. I was told that some contamination with cat litter
doesn't matter.
I was amazed by how simple the whole procedure was - now, if anyone
can tell me how you get a urine sample from a dog ....!

| Reading the base note reminded me of the many times I'd just emptied
and cleaned the litter tray and was just about to put some litter in
when Sophie used it! She didn't seem at all bothered that there was no
litter in - just a bit confused when she tried to cover it up!

I know how my vet did it when we suspected a bladder infection for my
schnoodle -- take the dog outside (on a leash of course) and walk around
until he finds the "right spot", then quickly slide the metal tray you've
been carrying all this time under the dog!

| When we needed a sample from Kalliste, I cleaned and disinfected
his litter box, then lined it with Saran Wrap. After he went, I
picked up the saran wrap by the corners, and put the whole thing
into a ziplock bag. Worked for us.

| With Pussycat, I'd wait until he was about to use the litter box and
then slip a small semi-flat saucer underneath his bottom. (My vet says
litter contamination makes the sample useless.)
