    According to WZOU, 94.5, and a survey by PACKAGED FACTS,
    cats have become the most popular pet in America. The feline
    population has increased 32% since 1982, while the canine
    population has increased a mere 4%.

| 3374.2 | Cats are #1 | YODA::SOULARD | I love cats! | Wed Feb 28 1990 16:07 | 14 |
| I like cats the BEST! My parents had cats before I was born, and they
    have two now. We always had a cat while I was growing up. We only
    had one dog. The dog use to let the cat get away with murder! They
    wer so cute!.

    Now that I'm married, we have 3 cats. Kitty Lee [5], Jazmyn and
    Sassafrass [3]. (All boys) We did have a 1 year old, Pepper, but
    we gave him to my parents because Jazmyn and Sass kept hitting
    him around. He's been living with my parents and their cat,
    Spookie [3 - who is Jazmyn and Sass's brother] since Christmas.
    They get along excellent and it's hard to tell them apart because
    they are both all black.

| 3374.3 | Feline Popularity has grown in UK too! | COMICS::WARNES | Capitulation in the face of defeat. | Fri Mar 02 1990 07:37 | 11 |
| This upsurge in interest in cats in the US has also been reflected in
    the UK. A few weeks ago, a vet appeared on TV and one of the things he
    was saying was that for the first time in a long career, he was dealing
    with more cats than dogs.

    I like dogs as well as cats, but the latter are much more independant
    and appropriate to my lifestyle (ie: away for the odd 24-48 hrs).
