| 3293.1 | asthma? | MAMIE::RUSSO |  | Mon Jan 29 1990 16:36 | 9 |
| | It sounds like asthma. My cat had a problem like that a couple
    of years ago. The vet did an x-ray of the lungs and determined
    it was asthma. Cortisone pills worked wonders. The problem has
    pretty much cleared up but every so often, he'll start up again.
    We just give him a tablet for a couple of days and he is fine.
    Your parents should ask the vet about this. It is quite common
    in cats.

| 3293.2 | Too dry..?? | WILKIE::IVES |  | Mon Jan 29 1990 16:48 | 11 |
| | Our Ming occasionally sneezes/coughs, in the cold weather and the
    vet said, it's too dry in our house, so we turn the humidifier up
    a couple of notches and in about two weeks it goes away. He suggested
    if you don't have one, before you go to bed take a plant sprayer
    and put it on the finest mist and spray the carpeting in each room
    and that would help a lot.

    The cats have much better coats with the extra humidity in the house
    and your furniture benefits too.

| | I would think that they might want to take Chan to another vet for
    a second opinion. Two years is a long time to have a cough.

    Welll, it sounds like the mid-winter crud to me. My guys seem
    to get a version of it once during the winter, usually after
    Christmas in January. Some years it's worse than others.
    This season only two or three of them showed very slight
    signs of a tiny, and I do mean tiny cough. It went as
    fast as it appeared, thank God !! The crud for 17 is
    a horror show. I'm late for work every morning trying
    to pill 17 cats (Lil never gets sick, actually 16 cause
    Terror never gets sick either). Sometimes it takes
    a strong antibotic to clear it up.

    Jo, I"m not sure that Chan has it for two years - maybe
    just gets it every year (??? I think).

| 3293.5 | Chronic cough.... | BOOVX2::MANDILE |  | Tue Jan 30 1990 13:05 | 8 |
| | Casey has what the vet called a chronic cough. He had it for
    6-8 mths, and x-rays etc. showed no reason. It went away, but
    has re-appeared this January. It is probably a bit of all items
    combined that have been mentioned so far.
    His appetite is fine.....He is 3-4 pounds overweight!
