I plan to get a kitten from the Geneva Humane Society in
the near future. I also have two dogs. My question here is:
Does anybody have some hints to give me to assure a smooth
introduction of this new kitten to my dogs and to assure that
the dogs and the kitten become good friends ?

    Thanks for any input.

Last year we brought home a cute little tabby kitten. Our dog was
11 years old then. Actually, looking back, we didn't even think there
would be any problem. We brought the kitty home and put him down and
our dog ran over and sniffed him to pieces. Kitty was more afraid of
what this big creature was. We never did have any problem with the dog
or the cat. They get along great to this day. They don't do much
together. Dandy tries hard to play with Cricket (dog) He throws
himself down on the floor and tries to play under Cricket, but Cricket
just walks away. Sometimes Cricket licks Dandy's ears. Dandy like
    that.

I would say don't worry about it. Bring the kitten home and
introduce him/she to your dogs. Give your dogs lots of attention so
they won't think there's someone there to take their place.

        Good Luck!

I agree w/ the previous note..just bring the kitten home and just let
him/her find the dog on his own! I had 2 cats that hate dogs and when
my house was robbed I went in search of the bigges dog I could find and
I found one (130lbs) I was worreid about my cats..they stayed away for
a few days until they got used to there big brother..and now eveything
is fine..just dont push them together and I'm sure it will be fine

| The previous notes are right. Just let the animals make their own
peace. However, it won't hurt to keep a watchful eye for a few
weeks. My dog and kitties were raised together, but we recently
got a new kitten. They're all friends now, although there was
some hissing on the part of all the cats. Watch you dog so that
it doesn't get its eyes or nose scratched. The kitty may pull out
its claws until it realizes the dog won't hurt it. And if your
dog is not used to cats, it may play a little rough, so just keep
an eye out. I'm sure they will be fine.

| My SO's father brought home a cocker spaniel last year. Buffy had
to learn to get along with the 3 cats. He did pretty well except that
Curry (orange tabby) took him under his wing. Buffy now acts more
like a cat than a dog.
