    Hi Kathy,

I always thought it would be hilarious to have a cat with a human
name like David or Steven or something. In fact, in "My Stepmother
is an Alien", the dog's name was "Dave" and he had a bowl with his
name on it, which cracked me up everytime I saw it. Maybe I'm just
weird though.... howabout something like "Saturday", or something
else to commemerate the day/time/place you found him?

It's just wonderful that you went out of your way to help this poor
little thing. Who knows how many dark, cold nights he might have
spent scared out of his little wits?

Best of luck with the little guy,

    Lynn

| | "Rocky" or "Fur Ball" ??? Well, you asked for suggestions.
Naming your newest addition to your family should be fun. Perhaps
a name that reminds you of the location, or a place that you like
to vacation & brings back good memories. That's why we named our
    cats Casino and Maui.

| | I like Catsonova, and Picatso. If you want to be really off the
wall, you could name her Snowball. How bout Ebony. Or Clough.
    Or Chloe. Or Everett.

| | Please take the cat to the vet and have her checked out. You
don't want to expose the regular residents to anything nasty
like fleas, ear mites, Feline Leukemia etc.

Whenever I've named my cats I've always waited until I caught a
bit of their personality. Then suddenly, a name will pop into
    my head.

Another thought would be to name her after one of the kitties
from this file who have passed on. If you look in note 2228
which is all about the Silver Lining Memorial Gift you'll find
the lists of kitties who have been comemmorated. It would be
very nice to carry on the memory of one of those loved ones.
Be sure you ask if its ok first tho

      Nancy DC.

| | I've always liked the name Cinder for a black cat and in your kitty's
case it could even be short for Cinderella which is kind of appropriate
since they were both taken away from a horrible situation!

Several years ago I had (and lost) a beautiful all-black girl named
Morticia after the "Addams Family" tv show. We called her Tish for
short. She was the absolute last of my indoor/outdoor cats.

Re giving cats human names - the first cat I got after moving out of my
    parents' home was named George.  What a character he was! :^}

    re .9...

I like Cinder... thanks... Cinder it is...

Cinder is fitting in pretty well. She announces herself as she
changes rooms by hissing, just in case she may run into one of
the other cats, or the dog.

How do I get her to eat slower. She eats so fast I'm afraid she
will choke. I feed her a little at a time. She also growls while
she is eating. I've been feeding her dry in the morning, and a
1/2 a can at night. What should I be feeding her to fatten her
up a little, she is so thin...

She has a vet appointment on Dec. 2nd..

    Kathy...

| | My wife's parents have always given their cats "people" names, as they
consider them just another member of the family. Their current cat
is a big old black tom named Ralph ("Ralphie" to those who know him
well :-). Ralph has his own chair, placemat, and plate at the dinner
table, and will only eat table scraps if they are properly presented
on his plate -- what a gourmet!

Our cats were quite insistent that mere mortal human names weren't
    good enough for them....

i went through the same with stanley when i first took him in. he
gobbled down his food like he was a dog (apologiez to the canine loverz
    who consider that a slur...)

stan was a stray, and i have no way of knowing how long he was "on the
road". i alwayz figured he ate like that 'cuz he never knew when and
where his next meal was coming from. it may be the same with cinder.
stan has calmed down, though, now that he knowz he will alwayz get his
three squarez a day plus kitty treatz...

You might try a good sized portion of canned twice a day - my
kids got a little porky on canned and then leave a large bowl
of dry down all day for her to snack on when she feels the need.
She will pick up a little after she feels more comfortable!
Sounds like you BOTH are doing very well!

Congrats on the new addition to your family. Cinder is a terrific
name, (Tho I kinda like Panther too :))

On feeding, try feeding her more smaller meals until you feel she
has reached her ideal weight. That will avoid the pot belly that
so often occurs with rescued strays. It will also reassure her
that another meal is always forthcoming until she settles down and
gets used to the routine. I know it's is such a temptation to feed
a skinny cat but try not to overfeed her. That quickly becomes
a bad habit, for the cat!!!

I second the trip to the vets, it's always cheaper to vet one than
to have to treat the whole hosehold for worms or fleas etc.

    Much good luck!

| | I agree, Cinder is a nice name. However, since you found Cinder on the
Everett Dam, you could have name her Everett, or Damcat! I kind of
like Damcat - it fits mine right now.

    Hi,

things are going really well... I guess I am just really suprised
that she has fit in so well.. she has claimed her "space" in the
study on top of the bookshelf.

Cinder is eating a lot slower now, thanks for all the suggestions.
I've been feeding her away from everyone else, and she seems to
relax, and eat a lot slower.

my dog was brought up around the cats, so he can't figure out
why this one keeps growling at him. he is just trying to be
    friendly...

    thanks again for the advice...

    Glad she is fitting in.
