    I had someone lined up to take my two cats, but have just been informed
    that they are going through some changes (new spouse, new country, new
    job!!) that will not make the adoption possible. Is there anyone out
    there who can help? The movers arrive in 2 weeks!!

to Australia.

I have two cats (neutered males) that cannot go with us (the quarantine period
is 9 months!!). Both of these cats were obtained from Angel Memorial as kittens
(2 different litters) 2+ years ago and are inside cats (never outside).  They 
grew up together as kittens, and I would prefer to place them both in the same
home if possible.

Salt is a LARGE (14-15 lbs.) pure white cat with gold eyes and a small voice,
although he can be quite talkative.  He is very playful, although not a cuddly
cat.

Pepper (naturally) is a small pure grey cat with yellow eyes (looks a lot like
a Russian Blue) who rarely makes any sound, but can be quite demanding when it
is cuddle time.

Both cats are short-haired, extremely sanitary, and trained to a custom-made
scratching post (will include).  They play well together and individually with
their own separate types of toys (aluminum foil balls, milk container rings,
etc.)  Both cats are healthy, up to date on shots, and very clean. 

We would not part with these cats if we thought the 9 months quarantine would
not cause considerable harm to them.  We will be gone at least 3 years.

    I am in California and already have 20+ cats, but I wanted you to
    know that I will keep my ears open.
    
    I have had first hand experience with the pain of separation due
    to quarantine.  Two of my cats came to me when their owner was
    transfered to Hawaii and couldn't bear to put them through the four
    months of h**l It is hard to see how sad my friend is without the
    cats, but we both agree that they are better off with me than in
    the quarantine station.

    	At the risk of sounding cruel and heartless, I'll urge you to
    take the animals with you to Australia, if you love them that much,
    even considering the 9 months.  When I was sent to Ireland for 2
    years for the Company, I kept my (then 2) cats at a kennel here
    in Mass., where they were treated very well.  When I returned home,
    the cats were healthy and just as frisky as ever, and I'm sure that
    after a couple of weeks of home life they had forgotten their
    incarceration.
    
    	My advice is if you love 'em, keep 'em.  They'll survive quarantine
    just fine.

    Well, if the only other option is the shelter, I'd say take 'em
    too.
