| Hi. My mom's cat is now 17 1/2 and recently had a problem with his
box... or should I say out of his box. He's not one to use the litter
box except in extreme conditions, such as if it's freezing outside and
snowing. However, recently he went twice in her shower but hasn't done
it since. I think Sam wants my mom's total 100% devotion and he was
mad because he wasn't getting it (after all these years of her being
home most of the time, she's started volunteer work at the NJ audobon
society and Sam doesn't like it!). We also think he's getting a little
senile, although doesn't really show it much. When you go to the vet
next week, ask him if this is a sign of old age in cats.

| Munchkin, who is also 17, has arthritis in his back legs. When
his legs are bothering him, he often misses the box, even though
his four feet are just barely in the litter. He thinks that if
his feet are in the litter, well that's all that matters and who
cares if the "tush" isn't!
Perhaps, at your cat's advanced age, his hind legs/joints are
sore, and the "leg up" to the litter box is too high. Just a
thought...

| Like Munchkin, our Peaches (15) thinks as long as his feet are in the
litter, he's O.K. About 90% of the time he 'goes' over the edge on
the paper under the litter box. Recently he's been having some
thyroid problems, which in turn has messed up his liver and so he
has been having very loose bowels. He's under several medications,
so it's getting better, but it has created quite a mess at times.
