| | Why unsanitary? I would think a cat box is more unsanitary.

I know I've read at least one story in this conference of a feline
who watched her human and then imitated the behavior. I've also
seen demonstrations of cats who have learned to use the toilet thru
use of those training packages. I never bothered to teach my guys.
Mao is a real litter-flinger and I don't want to know what she'd
    do with the water :-)

| | Seamus, my Russian Blue, uses the toilet. He learned it by watching
his humans. He sits "side saddle" (on the side of the seat), stares
at the wall, makes sure his tail does not get wet and in a very
gentlemanly manner takes a w**z. And he does not like to be
    interrupted, if you please.

I have to wait in line sometimes to use the facilities! Geesh.
     These cats!

| | Wow, Ann, I wish my cats were that smart! Kelsey and Kirby swarm
around me in the bathroom and stick their paws under the door if
it happens to be closed, but other than that, they prefer their
    litter boxes.

I think what Seamus does is pretty terrific! Removing wet litter
is much worse than scooping the lumps!!

| | Having a cat door has it's advantages. Except when the snow
is deep enough to drift, Copy and Vanessa always go outside in the
woods. They hate the litter box.
(Copy has been missing again, since last Saturday. Darn, I'd
like to get a radio tracker collar for him!)
Chris - Dad to Copy and Vanessa (who wonders why little boys are
taught to use a toilet as a urinal. If they had to clean up after
themselves, they'd use it properly [seated]).

| | My grandmother had a big, female tabby that used the toilet
    exclusively---and FLUSHED it afterward!!
Of course, this was an older house that still had the overhead
tank with the hanging chain, so "Samantha" used to do her business,
and then reach that little claw up and bat at the chain until she
hooked a claw, then proceed to do a one-paw chin-up, which was enough
with her weight to pull the chain.
Grandma has a sort of home-made "seat" that my Grandpa made to
fit over the toilet seat so "Sam" wouldn't fall in, and it worked
    very well.

God!! If we could ONLY train DOGS to use the hopper!! Can you
see us trying to get into the bathroom with 10 pups and 3 kitties trying
to get in line in the morning???

| | No more litter box wouldn't that be heaven!!:-)

My problem is that we have to keep the lids down on the toilets in our
house 'cause Panther likes to flush and watch the water go down the
drain. Ths gets expensive, (the water bill tripled one quarter and we
were going crazy trying to figure out why 'till we caught the little
dickens in the act!) and Spot has a tendancy to be clumsy and has
fallen in a couple of times. Sigh, Maybe we should send her to ballet
classes, she really is clumsy for a cat.

I'd like to know how Panther learned how to flush, and what else is she
doing that I don't know about. We never leave car keys around for them
to find, we're not insured for feline drivers. :-)

    Feline fine,

Sue (Who is keeping tabs on the phone bill too!) & Panther & Spot

I would be interested in at least trying out one of these "toilet
train" kits. Can anyone tell me where I can get one?
