I am glad to say that this cat has found a nice home. I am also
disappointed that NO ONE in this notes file responded to this note
or directly to me with suggestions.

| | I am also glad that this cat has found a home. But, it might help
to mention that while we are all cat lovers in this file, there
is only so much we can do. Most of us are at cat max already, so
the best we can do for you is to keep our ears open, and put the
word out to our friends that there is a cat available.

As you can see, at any given time there are at least ten different
cats being advertised in this file as needing a new home. After
just going through a similar situation in trying to find a home
for a deserving cat, I can certainly understand your frustration,
but I think that this notes file should not be the target for these
    feelings.

In addition to what .2 said, I assume that most people reading
this notes file prefer to respond to notes using the notes file.
You asked for a response via E-mail or phone.
>You can call her owner at 617/893-5439 and ask for Ginny or send me E-mail.

He was always a real nice guy, probably just having a real bad day.

| | I also can understand his frustration. It sounded to me like
that cat had someplace to go but that they preferred to place
him in another home. There are lots of cats in this file that
have noplace to go but a shelter. I think sometimes we concentrate
on those cats a bit more.

| | Surely you can understand the reply in .1. I personally feel
the same way at times. I have placed several notes about cats in
need, and gotten absolutely no responses that helped place the cat.
I do not feel #1's response was off base. It just shows what many
feel when they are dealing with placing animals. It hurts like h***
to know there are so many people reading these notes, yet so little
that can take the cats and give them good homes.
Re 1 : I am glad the cat has found a home.... (I only wish I
could for the ones we are caring for).. ;)

Well, Curt, I have to disagree with you. I think .1 was
a little bit harsh. As .2 said, there are so many `emergency'
pleas to place cats in this file lately, there is only
so much we can do. In fact, I have a 9 month old tom hanging
around my house that I know is a stray, but I haven't asked
in here if anyone wants him yet because I'm trying to exhaust
all `external' resources first. It's unreasonable to expect
to place a cat `by friday', `in three days', or `by the end
of the week or he gets put to sleep', as we have all been
    	reading in here lately.

To .1 - Please don't judge us so harshly. Almost all of us
have had foster cats, placed cats, and kept the ones
we couldn't place because we couldn't bear to put them
to sleep. I started out with one, I'm up to three, in
a 2 BR apt, and that doesn't count the dozen or so I
have placed in the last few years.

I am sorry you were dissapointed in the notes file. I hope you
will take the time to browse thru the adoption note # 414 and
see all the wonderful cats and kittens who need homes. I also
hope you will realize that this file is a LIMITED recource. There
are other recources available like a newspaper, Want Ad, church and
grocery store listings. We see animals in 'emergency' type situations
weekly....and there is only so much the file participants can do.

I am very glad your situation was resolved and hope you will continue
to read FELINE, because it really is a fun file.

re 8. (i hope I have the right one) Sherry!
Oh, without a doubt re.1 was harsh. My point was that I think
it is natural. Haven't we all felt that way at times?

I do agree with you though that one can not "expect" to place
a cat. But I think most that put replies/notes in this file hope
to be heard and really feel that their problems will get answered.
Many times they are not, and it is hard not to feel a bit hurt by
    it..

| | I am the author of .2 and I wasn't trying to be hurtful to the base
noter, only to express that while I could understand his frustration
at not having any responses, I didn't feel it fair to be harsh to
the feline community in this file. We all do the best we can.

I have been there too. I have put many adoption notes in here. But,
as was mentioned, this file is a limited resource. Most of the
participants already have as many cats as they can take in, and
although we would love to help each and every cat, sometimes this is
    not going to be impossible.

There is a reason for this reply. Someone [ :) ] commented to
me about the subject, and put the wheels in my brain 'a-turnin'.

I think at times we all deal with situations that hit very close
to our hearts. At those times we hope others can help us out. It
is natural for this to happen. But I do think sometimes we overlook
the fact that all of us are in in together. My previous replies
were NOT by any means meant to complain about anyone in the notefile.
(I know all too well how compassionate you {ALL} are.), and it was
certainly not to draw pity to my own problems. I attempted
to express a feeling that we all share at times, and to perhaps
explain a feeling (My own opinion) that others were overlooking:

Anger, hurt, frustration, and total uselessness. Perhaps the
base noter was a little harsh, but I still feel it was justified.
But..... Maybe I should now, as was suggested to me, lighten up.

I want to take this time to personally thank all of you for
all you have done here (In Felines). Seldom have I found such caring,
loving, understanding, and compassionate people. If it were not
for several of you, I hate to think about where I would be. Many
have helped in ways that should make them proud. You are a great
bunch of people, and I thank you..............

| | Such a caring and giving group here in feline!!! I acknowledge
responders to the base note here for being compassionate and
    understanding.

My sister just got married, and she and her new hubster
want to adopt a dog. I decided to check out the notes files for her.
I looked in the adoption note in the canine notes files and I was
turned off by the name-calling going on for a guy who wanted
to give away a dog he adopted. I guess sometimes people lose
perspective and forget to be compassionate about humans. Fortunately
my "roomates" always forgive my faults!! (;^)

| | Thanks for your nice note!!

I think you should have your sister check around at the local
shelters for dogs. There will be many many deserving puppies
(of all ages) there. You could also check your local paper and
"Digital this week" or whatever your local DEC paper. OUrs has
a classified section that always lists a cat or dog for adoption.

      Where is your sister located?

| | This is just an aside to -.2. I understand your dismay at the notes
that often appear in Canine, as I am an avid reader of that file as
well. Sometimes people get EXTREMELY emotional about animals because
they know that they cannot argue for themselves. Please do not judge
the entire CANINE file or its readers on the "discussion" which
occurred within that note. There are many devoted people in that file,
and I am sure that many would be very willing to assist you in finding
    the right dog.

I also have to agree, however, that the type of responses in this file
as opposed to the CANINE file, are very different. Let's just say that
FELINE is not as "intense" as CANINE.

    Don't give up looking.
    Laurel
