| 2767.1 | Don't wait, call the vet NOW! | GENIE::KRINER | Dad to 20 or 21 cats, I'm never sure | Mon Aug 14 1989 13:19 | 10 |
| | Sandi,
Lightning is trying to tell you something by peeing on the rug.
Call your vet immediately! Try to be as informative as possible about
her weight loss, her temp, any new diet you have her on, and any
behavioural changes (i.e. peeing on the rug, any changes in her eating
habits, is she drinking any more or less water?, etc.)
Good luck, and keep us posted,
Paul

| | I have just talked to Paul off-line and will tell everyone what
    transcribed.

All these symptoms are the reason that Lightning went to the vet on
Saturday. We did talk about the probable causes but really couldn't
narrow it down. Also, if Lightning gets worse I will be taking her
in to the vet before the 2 weeks are up.

Paul was worried that I was going to wait for 2 weeks before I started
worrying again. Boy Paul, you don't know me yet.

For the past 3 months the only song I have been singing is

"TO THE VET, TO THE VET, TO THE VET, VET, VET"

I do thank you for your speedy response both on the phone and in the
    notes file.

    Sandi

| | Maybe her cystitis is not completely gone. The peeing on the rug
could be involuntary if she is not completely over the cystitis.
Also, if she doesn't feel well, that would explain her loss of
appetite. 2-3 pounds is a big weight loss, be sure to point that
out to the vet. Also, a 101 temp does not indicate a fever. Cats
normal temp runs from 101-102.5. Above 102.5 should be looked into
in most cases. A cat who is upset, excited, or nervous, can show
a higher temp without being really sick.

Did the vet recommend a diet change in order to keep her cystitis
free? Have there been any other diet changes.

Also, you mentioned that she was anemic, this could be partial cause
of her loss of appetite. She is probably feeling a bit run down.

| | No change yet. Well, maybe a little one. I don't think Lightning is
using the rug anymore. I will keep a check on the area for another
    few days thou.

She is taking the medicine (not gracefully) and not spitting it back
out. She would if I gave her the chance thou. Lightning is not like
Thunder when it comes to medicine. I swear Thunder would be a *druggie*
    if she were human.

I am bringing the food dish to Lightning to make sure she is eating.
Of course she doesn't eat all of it and Thunder has already figured out
what I am doing (such a BRAT).

| | Well, it looks like Lightning is feeling a *little* better. She is
coming *to* the dish when I feed them instead of having me bring it to
her. She still is waiting for me to walk to her to give her loves but
it looks like she hasn't lost any more weight. She has even rubbed
against my legs for some attention.

It's amazing how you can miss these little things. Will update you
when I bring her to the vet on Saturday. So far so good.

Is it possible she was pining for the loss of her friend Keisha???
The thought has crossed my mind because this happened right after we
had Keisha put down (long story in Canines).

| | Sandi -
I'd say that grief is a definite possibility. Its well known
that animals grieve for lost loved ones just like humans do. Lets
    hope she's "recovering".
re: missing little things - It IS amazing. During the time that
we had Tymothee with us, the girls stayed downstairs (in a huff)
rather than coming upstairs and sleeping with us like they used
to. Also Mao, aka patrol-cat, stopped making her rounds for the
duration of Tym's stay with us. We really really missed that.
Its what puts all the fun in the relationship.
