I'm having a problem with one of my two cats, but I don't know
which one. Back in May Toby started to mess on my bed, but he
broke that habit and has been good ever since. This past weekend
one of them started to mess in places other than their litter box.
Also this past weekend I took care of my 2 1/2 year old niece.
The first night my niece stayed over one of the cats messed on
my niece's bed (that was Friday night). My sister came on Monday
to pick up her daughter and brought in her 3 month old baby, they
stayed for about 8 hours. In the eight hours one of them messed
on a scatter rug I had over a brand new rug in the hallway.
I brought the scatter rug into the kitchen to clean and left it
there. Within the next three hours there was another
mess on the rug where the scatter rug had been. After they left
no one messed until last night. Someone messed on one of the
living room chairs. Only this time I noticed blood in the mess.
Needless to say this has me quite concerned. I know I need to take
them to the vets, but has anyone experienced this and can prepare
me for whatever the vet might tell me. Any advise appreciated.

Any time you see any blood in anything you go to the vet!
I have heard that sometimes cats do this if they have some
sort of parasitic infection. Your vet will probably want
a stool sample too. Make sure its fresh, put it in a
plastic bag and store in the fridge until you go to the vet.

Besure to squeeze the air out of the bag before you refridgerate
it or the sample may go "stale"

You don't mention the ages of your cats, but it sounds something like a
problem we're currently having with our Squeak, a 15-year-old neutered
female. Due to what the vet describes as "loss of muscle tone", when
she has a bowel movement she is unable to completely express it into
the litter box. Consequently it winds up on the floor next to the box,
where she steps out of the box.
[We initially throught it was just a stress-related problem, because we
brought a stray male home about two years ago, and I know she was (and
is) stressed out about him because she "refuses" to play or have
anything to do with him.]
After examination and discussion with the vet, it turns out that she's
actually constipated due to poor muscle tone, and she strains to have
her movements, which was causing bleeding also. Our vet recommended
she get some Metamucil mixed in with her food at each meal, and as she
has NEVER in 15 years been observed to drink water, we mix water in
also.
This may not be the answer for your cat, and I certainly agree with
another reply that said "anytime there's blood see the vet". We have
found that she doesn't strain with the Metamucil, however, and we
confine her to one room (which has highly finished floors and no rugs)
after meals.

I brought a speciment over to the vets. After being tested the Vet put Toby on Kaopectate. What I thought was blood was just blood color(?). He doesn't have worms, just probably stressed himself out over having my sisters babies in the house. And I was thinking a getting a Himalyan kitten - Toby would probably commit suicide. | |||||

Well Toby would probably want you to THINK he'd commit suicide.
My guess is after a week or two with a new kitten he'd discover
that kittens are GREAT cat-toys. That's what happened with Isis
when we brought Dundee home :-)

Toby is having a behavior problem. My sister came to visit this
past weekend and put the babies clothing on the chair. Toby messed
next to the clothing. His nose is really out of joint when the
kids come to visit. So, how do I handle him? Any suggestions will
be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you should try giving him extra attention when the kids come
to visit. He may be jealous.
