Cary and I have just adopted a 4 year old, black, female,
copper-eyed, spayed and declawed persian.
Now, we have 3 other fuzzfaces at home. We brought Samantha
home last night and left her in the pet taxi for a while while
Duke and Sasha sniffed around. Of course there was a lot of
hissing...all from Samantha. She hasn't even seen Brandi yet.
Sam is the domineering, queen bee type...and so is Brandi.
And none of our kitties are declawed.
Our cats sleep in the cellar at night and we put Sam in the
spare room with food and a litter box....well she decided she
didn't want to stay there so we let her out (sometime in the
middle of the night) and let her check out the house. She
was sitting on the back of the chair this morning. I let the
other two out of the cellar and the hissing started again.
So, out came the squirt bottle. She DID NOT like that at all.
Tim (the guy we got her from, free BTW) said that his wife
spoiled her, so I don't think she really knows the meaning
of the word no. The reason they gave her up was because
she messed on the carpet every once in a while when Angela
would go to work and with the new baby in the house, they
don't have much time to try and break her of it.
Sam is used to other cats, Tim and Angela have another
Persian, Noodles. She's a beauty too.
My question to you experts....I've never dealt with a purebred
before. Typically what are persians like? Any suggestions
on how to bring her into the family easier? (I'm a little
worried because she's been declawed) Any suggestions on how
to break her of the "accidents" on the carpet. (we found one
this morning)
I know this is long-winded and I apologize but I've never had
to bring an adult cat into a house with other adult cats (and
one kitten) Kittens are easier.....
Thanks!!

I forgot to mention that this is on a trial basis and Tim
said that if it doesn't work out he'll come and get her...
I don't know how Angela would take losing her and then her
coming back only to have someone else come and take her
away....she was a very unhappy lady last night. I felt
so guilty taking her baby away from her!! I started crying!!

As long as its only hissing, don't worry about it. Its when you
start finding blood (like I did with Tymothee) that you worry.
Most of the time its all noise and show and no real action so
don't worry.
Does Angela have her own cat box? You may need to provide her
with one as she may refuse to use the one you other cats use. Thats
because it's their territory. Try that for a bit and see what happens.
Good luck

Nancy...it's kinda confusing but Angela was the human
mommy and Samantha is the kitty!! :-)
Yes, I gave her her own litterbox for now. I guess I'll just
have to wait it out but it disrupts everyone!! Sasha even
swatted at Duke a coupla times....I'm not looking forward
to introducing Brandi to Sam cuz their personalities are
alot alike....both want to be BOSS!!
Thanks

oops - sorry 'bout that. Its been one of those days. Woke up
at 2:30 am with a pounding headache. Didn't get much more sleep
after that. (And this time the cats had nothing to do with it.)
Well, I'm out of suggestions - besides considering the luck I'm
having with Mr. Tymothee I don't know as I'm a good person to
be giving advice ;-)
And whenever something disrupts our household Isis swats at Mao
so I don't think that's too unusual either. As long as she's
not serious.

With my new kitten in the house, my old man (cat) growls at EVERYONE
even tho the female has been with him for over two years now....
don't worry about the hissing and growling or even swatting. as
long as they don't tear each other up, they'll get used to it.
if you yell at one for hissing yell at 'em all. otherwise, just
try and ignore it.
