any cat can be a show cat--the breeders and showers in this notesfile
can tell you more about that than me, but you might just want to
show him off for real. :)

| Sounds to me like he resembles a Turkish Angora....They come in
more colors than just white now.
You might want to find a picture of a T.A. and compare.

Do we have any TICA showers here that can answer??? I showed TICA
several years ago, and I seem to remember that declawed cats were
allowed.

| He sounds wonderful! I, too, like his name, especially the Silvee
part - my little longhai has such soft hair, pants, big ruff, huge
tail, and enough hair coming out of her ears to put up in rollers
with the color or quicksilver, that I named her "QuickSilver, My
1st LH" I call her SilVee for short! She's a doll baby.
RE: TICA, I don't remember either - it used to be ok - I don't
know what the rule is now!
Enjoy your baby! He sounds really beautiful!

| Declawed household pets can be shown in TICA. As far as I know,
you still cannot show declawed purebreds though. Rationale for
this difference, in the case of household pets alot of the time
the cats come to their owners as strays and are already declawed.

| re: .7 - Glad to hear that Jo. Paula Margolis has two of the
most beautiful long hair torties (Schnapps & Tiquela (sp?)). Its
a shame that she can't show them - and at least one of them came
declawed. It would be great if she could show them TICA.

Wow, that's a strange rule about the declawing, maybe that's why
someone declawed him, so no one could ever show him. I've heard of
awful things like that being done to cats to reduce their value when
a breeder decides to "not keep" a particular cat.

| I haven't heard any such thing! Why would a breeder want to physically
maim a cat just to keep it from being shown? A cat being shown
under a breeder's cattery name is *advertising*, not unwanted
competition!
Most likely, whoever had the cat declawed did it for the usual reasons,
not because they didn't want the cat to ever be shown.
This is not a flame, just adding another opinion.

| Every year a resolution comes before the CFA members and board members
to change the existing rule to allow for declawed cats. Every year
it is not passed. The rationale behind not passing the change is
that by allowing declawed cats to be shown, CFA would be condoning
a practice to which they are greatly opposed.
I am glad that there are some associations that will still allow
a declawed household pet be shown. Do the other associations (the
ones that allow declawed hhp's) allow declawed purebreds too?

| Jo, is there a local show association that allows declawed cats?
I had Ashely declawed many moons ago (don't yell at me, there are
lots of things I wouldn't have done then if I had all the info I
do now, and no, she's came through it all right), and I think she
is unique enough that I'd like to consider showing her, altho it
would take work, since she is inherently shy of strangers (better
than before) and is about 6 yrs old. But she's my bestest buddy...
