| | What a wonderful thought - a litter of Burmese in your house! Please
let us know how the birth goes.

I still remember when we went to choose Sura - a litter of seven
balls of fluff, all trying to climb on our laps at once. Burmese
LIVE to cuddle. There were four chocolates, two seals and one lilac
(the only girl). Sura is a seal. It'll be interesting to hear what
    colour combinations you get.

| | Hi Shayne,

Here in the states, we have different names for Burmese colors.
What you guys call seal, we call sable. Sable is the most available
color, and we don't see many of the other colors. Now I can't remember
the names of the other recognized colors. Oh well, maybe someone
    else could jog my memory.

| 2448.3 | More about Burmese | NZOV01::PARKINSON | Reunite Gondwannaland! | Fri May 12 1989 02:41 | 19 |
| | I think it goes like this:

       USA Rest (incl NZ)
       Sable Seal
       Blue Blue
       Champagne Chocolate
       Platinum Lilac

There are also reds and creams, as well as various tortoiseshells.
Seals are certainly the most common here, but we see all the others.
The Burmese show is on in two weeks, it'll be interesting to see
    the range of colours there.

A new breed they are talking about a lot in England is the Burmilla,
created from Burmese and Chinchillas. Have any of you seen any?
I don't think they exist in NZ yet. I've only read about them in
    my English 'Cat World' magazine.

| | Never seen or heard of the Burmilla, but have heard of the Tiffany,
a longhaired Burmese. Never seen one though, and don't know of
    anyone who is breeding them.

Burmese out here are going through some big problems with breeding
right now. How 'bout the breeders out there? USA Burmese are very
extreme, and this is leading to some problems.

| | I've heard of the Tiffany, but they don't exist in NZ. Burmese in
NZ are SUPER healthy, very long-lived cats, as they are in England.
It's sad that there are problems with them in the US. They also
tend to have large litters here, with few problems.

| | As far as I know, the Tiffany is not a recognized breed yet, but
somebody must be working with them since they come up in conversations
quite alot. They are also on the CFA/Quaker Cat Breeds poster.

Glad to hear that New Zealand Burmese are healthy and hardy. Burmese
are beautiful loving cats, and it is hard to see them going through
so many problems here in the states.

Tasia had 3 kittens last night - a boy and two girls, I think.
    All sables.

And Dad is behaving wonderfully. We were worried that mom might
turn on him when the kids came, but all she did was grab him by
the scruff of the neck - drag him into the nest- and give him a bath!

so funny when they insist on mothering everyone in the house.

| | Congratulations! Boy, I thought you might get a range of colours,
but I must admit that seals/sables are my favourite (Sura is a seal,
    need I add?).

We went to the Burmese Show on Sunday. One breeder there had some
LOVELY photos of her cats and kittens. Now, Burmese in New Zealand
tend to have large litters, but this breeder had a photo of a litter
one of her girls produced a few years ago - a New Zealand record
    - ELEVEN kittens! And they all survived. Absolutely gorgeous.

Okay, I've got to tell you - Sura won a big silver cup at the show!
Seventh best in show! He was terribly proud of himself. There were
a LOT of Burmese cats, all colours, including silvers. Quite a good
    show.

| | Shayne, that is quite an achievement, winning the cup at the Burmese
show. I bet Sura thinks he is king of the house now.

    Congrats to you both,

| | Shayne,

    Congrats! To you and Sura.

Tasia'a still being a good mom. And dad takes his turn watching
the kids. (Don't I wish my exhusband behaved so well!) All three
of the kids are big and healthy. We were real worried because
Tasia's last litter didn't survive (2 very tiny champagne kittens).

Now all I need is names for the horde.

    Maureen,

Congratulations on the new kids! Sounds like Tasia wanted Josh
to _clean up his act_ before introducing the babies. Don't want
dad to look like a bum! [sounds like Tasia _trained_ Josh well ;^)]

    Shayne,

Congratulations to you and Sura on your big win! You must be very
    proud.

Bathtime at my house has become quite an adventure. My bathtime,
that is, not the cats. The four of us, Tasia, Joshua, Spud, and
my self make one great trek to the bathroom. I turn on the water,
and they check to make sure it is falling into the tub properly.
I climb in, and they proceed to have of group kitty-bath.

Except lately. Spud has decided that he doesn't need a kitty bath.
He need a people bath. So he's taken to climbing in with me, laying
down on my chest with his belly in the water, and commences
purring furiously. For what it's worth, he makes a great book rest.

| | Ok, now I know burmese aren't the brightest cats in the world,
and Spud just might have a bit of a learning disablity, but this
    is wierd...

Joshua came home a week or so ago, and Tasia was in heat so we've
had rampant cat orgies. Spud is young and impressionable and he
likes to watch mom and dad. Last night he finally figured out
what they were doing. It must have loked like fun 'cause he decided
    to try it, too.

Except for one problem - he tried with Dad (actually the other way
around). Maybe I got him "debitted" too early :>)

| | I know what you mean. Moody isn't debitted, and has already bred
two of my queens, but he has recently decided that Major, my four
month old *male* kitten, is really hot stuff!! Won't leave him
alone, always climbing on and trying to breed him. Poor Major,
he doesn't know what to make of it.

| 2448.21 | newsflash:  CATMAGNETISM | DYO780::AXTELL | Dragon Lady | Fri Mar 30 1990 14:06 | 9 |
| | The scientific community today announced the discovery of a previously
unknown physical property. Catmagnetism. It seems that cats and
beds have exactly the opposite polarities, and since opposites attract
they are hopelessly bonded together. This property is only dangerous
when laps are located between a cat and a bed. Side effects include
tardiness to work and failure to get when the alarm sounds. The
only known cure appears to be the sound of canned catfood being
    opened.
