| | This is one of my biggest fears. In the event of a fire, I don't
know how I would get all my cats into their carriers and out of
    the house.

I am certainly feeling for Beverly and her husband right now. I
will try and get a card off to them.

(Gawd! Sometimes I wish I had a door I could shut so I could
    cry this out........)
Beverly had been helping me show Dundee. Sometimes she has
a gruff exterior but I know she loves her cats very very much.
And anyone who was worried - Bianca and her sister, the
beautiful scottish folds Bev had been showing for Tony Costa
are with Tony. They are alright.

| | I'm very very very relieved to hear it was electrical and not
due to cigarettes or matches. That's one less burden.

what is the total count now of saved cats?

E.T. time will ease the grief & horror. It never goes away totally,
but it will get easier to bear. Doing things to help does make
    it a little easier.

Jack and I are going to look into installing a fire alarm that auto-
    matically rings the Fire Department.

| | i am curious...were the cats that wre found alive inside the house?
or running around outside? i wouldn't hve thought the kittys could
survive inside a house full of smoke and fire, but if so, well,
maybe if this sort of thing happens again (god forbid, but you know
how that goes) to someone else, then all hope isnt lost that the
    animals will perish...

    do keep us posted!

| 2445.30 | Clearing up some information | REFINE::TAYLOR | You're worth your weight in m&m's | Mon May 15 1989 00:52 | 31 |
| | I'm putting in this note to clarify some things.

First of all, Sherry Mitchel has told me that Beverly did not have 80
    cats. She had 60.

The total count of cats that died in the fire was 30 cats. At first,
they thought that that did not include kittens. They found out from
the MSPCA that it did include kittens. There were 15 kittens so that
means that they only found 15 cats that were killed in the fire.

Also, most of the cats that were killed were the ones that had the run
of the house. The kittens were in baskets in 3 different rooms. The
carriers that she had were melted, but there were no cats in them.

Her 2 stud males did survive. Along with a few of her queens. Beverly
still doesn't know which cats were killed because she still hasn't gone
to the animal hospital. She can't bear to find out which ones she
lost. All of them were so dear to her.

At the moment, they have saved about 30 cats. There are still some in
the celler of the house (they think there's around 4 of them). They
have left some food out for them and it is being eaten. They have got
have-a-heart traps set to try and catch them. Beverly goes over twice
a day to see if she can catch them.

And finally, the best news. Beverly's insurance company is acting
fast. They are setting up a moble home for her on her property by
tuesday. They will start rebuilding their home shortly.

    Holly

| | Thanks for the update, Holly. I think when we were all getting
the news initially, there wasn't alot of information available.
When I talked to Sherri last Tuesday, things were still pretty much
    chaos.

I didn't want to keep calling and asking, but I prayed alot, and
hoped alot when I heard word that they were still finding cats alive.

This is still a devastating disaster....have you heard how Beverly
    and John are holding out???

| 2445.32 | She's doing much better than expected | REFINE::TAYLOR | You're worth your weight in m&m's | Mon May 15 1989 11:14 | 10 |
| | Actually, they are holding out pretty well, considering. I guess they
are still planning on going to the show this weekend. This one is
going to be a rough one for her because everyone is going to be asking
how she is doing. But Beverly is definitely a tough cookie. She is
also planning on going to the show in Ohio, too. She says that if she
doesn't have anything to show, then she will find something from
someone else (maybe the two kittens she has been showing recently).

    Holly

| 2445.33 |  | REFINE::TAYLOR | Did someone say CCHHOOCCOOLLAATTEE?? | Wed Jul 05 1989 09:04 | 14 |
| | I just saw Beverly this weekend. She seems to be doing pretty well.
They are living in a two room trailer right now. They saved about 3/4
of the cats. A few had to be put down because of smoke inhalation.
She does still have her two studs males, though (a blessing!). She's
gotten unbelievable contributions from individual people and from the
local cat clubs. She appreciated all of the cards and things sent to
her. She basically is looking for basic household items. The latest
expedition was to look for a collander.

She asked me to tell everyone how much she appreciated all of the cards
and donations sent to her. They really helped to life her spirits.

    Holly

she was doing. I had gotten some info from Tony Costa, Dundee's
breeder and a friend of Bev's, but he's currently in Portugal
    getting married :-)

I'm hoping to see her at the shows in the fall.
