| | Unless, of course, you have rattan furniture!

| | What's rattan? Is that like sissel rope?

| 2156.4 | now that you mention it, I'm not sure what it is | YOSMTE::CORDESBRO_JO |  | Fri Jan 27 1989 16:08 | 4 |
| | Kinda like wicker. I am not sure what it is made out of but it
    is woven (isn't it?).

| 2156.5 | A somewhat correct description | FSHQA1::RWAXMAN | A Cat Makes a Purrfect Friend | Fri Jan 27 1989 16:33 | 14 |
| | Rattan is not woven like wicker. It's solid pieces of wood (bamboo
    like wood) wrapped with pieces of wicker. Kind of hard to describe
    but certainly not something a cat would sink its claws into (although
    trying to unravel the wicker parts would be fun!). We have a rattan
    dinette set and the cats prefer to sleep on the cushioned seats,
    not ruin the base or the chairs.

    Sissal rope would be your best bet for a scratching post. I have
    also noticed that my kittens like to claw the underside of the carpet
    scraps we put down as welcome mats.

| 2156.6 | I stand corrected... | DELNI::CGARDNER | hey now, hey now | Wed Feb 01 1989 21:24 | 8 |
| | sorry -- I stand corrected! it was jute or sissal (sp?) or hemp
   or ONE of those fibers . . . at any rate, it was NOT carpeting! I
   was hoping the woman who told me about the west coast company might
   read this conference but it doesnt' look like she does. . . if I do
   find out, I'll let you all know.
   thanks!
