| 2003.1 | Probably is worms | MEDUSA::BOURGEOIS |  | Tue Nov 29 1988 15:35 | 6 |
| | It probably is milk worms. Make sure you bring a stool sample to
the vets. There is not much you can do about the bad breath until
she gets rids of the worms. Don't worry it is fairly common in kittens.

| | Bring kitty to the vets. Bad breath can also be a sign of kidney
    problems.

| | When Loki started having bad breath I looked his mouth over
and found a decaying tooth which had to be removed. Don't know
if kittens can get tooth decay, but it might be worth a look.

I have never heard of "milk" worms. I've heard of ringworm,
roundworm, coccidia, tapeworm, but never milk worms. What
    the heck is milk worms?

| | okay.....what do you describe as 'bad breath' in cats? Nippa's
breath smells like a 3 week old can of tuna, which had been left
out in the hot sun. Is that normal? If not how does one then proceed
to get a very fat vet shredder to the vet for a checkup?

so I said milk worms!!!! I think they would probably be round worms,
    sorry for the confusion.

Are you sure that it is the breath that you are smelling?? It the
cat has slightly longer hair there could be some poop stuck in it.
It this is the case, be sure to scoop the litter more often.

| 2003.9 | Solution for Bad Breath | SIVA::KARLA |  | Wed Apr 19 1989 13:14 | 8 |
| | I have a cat with worst breath around and my vet said it is simply
just that, bad breath. The solution is to brush his teeth. Either
your vet can do this or you can purchase the special toothbrush
and toothpaste needed at any pet store or your vet's office. To
keep up with this problem regular brushing and hard cat food will
    help.

No more bad breath for Max

| | My supervisor is looking for "kitty toothpaste". She's had her cats
to the vets, and they're very healthy. They've had this problem
for quite some time. She said that she had heard of a toothpaste
for cats. Does anyone know a brand name? Or even what to ask for?
I told her I'd research this topic for her.

    Any ideas?

| | She could use plain old baking soda or even a terry wash cloth with
water, but is she is looking for a real toothpaste, her vet would
probably be the best source. She shouldn't try human toothpaste on the
cat as it will foam and cats won't spit it out (they will try to swallow
it). Basically, the veterinary toothpaste is just a flavored abrasive
    that doesn't foam.

| | I bought a kit for cleaning cats teeth at a cat show once.
The Boston Cat Hospital had a table there and they were
selling it. It contained specially treated gauze pads and
a little plastic "toothbrush" type device. I had intended
to use it on Mao, but since she's been eating CD her tartar
problem has almost totally cleared up. I never even opened
the package. If I find it you can have it.

| | I get guaze pads made for this purpose (Cat-o-dontics, I think they
are called) from my vet. He gave me toothbrushes, too, but not a chance.
The pads do help. Sweetie had considerably less tartar of the left side
this time than on the right side, and I knew I'd been doing the
right side relatively poorly due to the awkwardness of getting in
    there for a righthander.
There is also some gel thing that goes on the pads, also from the vet's.

let her mouth alone..period.. it is funny to me , trying to
brush Happy's teeth, and her talking at the same time.. and of course
her royal highness looking disdainfully at both of us, especially
at Happy..!!!! Gee MOTHER, whats the matter with the PEASANT..?..
    you can do me again..

| | The other note about cats and home computers reminds me that it's
Sweetie's fixation with the computer that helps me do his teeth.
When the computer's in use he tries to hunker down on the keyboard
and won't budge for anything, not even tooth-cleaning indignities
    cause him to leave.
