My mother has finally broken down and is going to let me get a kitten.
My family and I really would like a white persian. (Do some Persians
have blue eyes?). My mother is admant on getting a kitten
rather than a cat. I live in Nashua, NH. Does anyone know of someone
who might have some white Persian kittens for sale in the NH area?
I hope so because I want to get one before my mother changes her
mind!

Just curious.
Aren' white Persians with blue eyes born deaf???

White cats with blue eyes are frequently deaf. It's even common
for a white cat to have one blue eye and one green or brown eye,
and only the ear on the side of the blue eye will be deaf.
Siamese cats have blue eyes, but it's a different shade of blue,
and not associated with deafness.
You should take into account that a Persian, like all longhairs,
requires more grooming. I suspect Persians are particularly
troublesome, because their coats are finer than say a Maine Coon
I'm not really sure, since I've never owned either. Depending on
the source of your mother's reluctance, you may wish to take this
into account, and get a shorthair instead. You also may wish to
get an older kitten, which will be less likely to get into trouble.

for white not the gene for blue eyes. That is the reason why siamese
are usually not deaf.
There is a whole other topic about blue eyed white deaf cats. Perhaps
the moderators could point the way.

Re: .3
Siamese are often *selectively* deaf. That is, they are often deaf if
you are yelling at them to get off the counter, but are *never* deaf
when you open a container of cat food, even if they're at the other
end of the house. :-)
