| | I did something similar one day on I-190. I had seen a cat one
morning in the median strip, yet I was unable to stop. The next
morning, one of my co-workers told me that he had seen a cat in
the median on his way to work. After questioning him as to exact
location, and what the cat looked like, I realized that it was probably
the same cat. So, on my lunch hour that day, I drove back to 190,
parked on the side of the road and tried to find the cat.
Unfortuneately, I never found him. But, at least I tried.

| | Just last Friday I was traveling down E. main st. in Westboro(quite
the busy street at rush hour, mind you) and I saw this thing that
looked like a sack fly out from under this little old ladies car
    - right at ME! Come to find out it was a tiny kitten, she had driven
over it and didn't realize it. Well I stopped short just missing
the kitty, and causing a huge accident, and was going to get it
and add it to my collection (now mom can't say no to a hurt little
cute kitten, can she?). However she was gone, vanished, I saw her
run into the bushes and that was that. It has bothered me since.
I figure that if she did take off that fast, she probably was
shaken up more than anything else.

Thanks for letting me ramble, it really upsets me that someone would
let that happen and not do anything AND that I'll never know if
the baby was okay or not.

| | It's always nice to hear a lot of people take the time for
animals to have the 'right of way'.

My sister, whose from Springfield, just 4-5 weeks ago was driving
down a very busy main st. and there was a kitten (not more than
six weeks old) who was stuck right in the middle of the road and
running back and forth trying to get to either side, scared out
of its wits and cars were just dodging and not stopping.
Boy do I hate that!! Luckily she was there because she pulled
over, stopped all traffic, picked him up and brought him home
and is living happily ever after. (By the way, tried to find
its original owner but to no avail.) So she now has 3 to her list.
More than she wanted but how can you turn your back on a little
    kittie??

| | I think it's truly wonderful that people are both caring enough
and quick-witted enough to stop and help an animal.

But please, please don't take unnecessary risks. If you get yourself
killed, you won't have helped the animal, and you'll orphan any
    pets that you have already.

This time of year is very dangerous, because the evening commute
is at dusk, when seeing is most difficult. I don't know what
conditions on 395 are like, but if it's anything like 495 or Rt.
3, then running across the highway or backing up to an exit is an
    open invitation for an accident.
