I am so glad you got the kittens. They sound adorable.

If one is light and one dark why not call them Smoke and Mist?

Keep us posted with all the cute things they do.

    Regards,

| | I don't normally like to pick on people's spelling, since I make my own
share of spelling errors, and I realize I've been in a critical mood
recently, but when people start copying errors, I get pushed over
    the edge.

Liquor refers to any distilled alcoholic beverage (as opposed to beer,
which is brewed, and wine, which is fermented). Liqueur refers to the
sweet, syrupy stuff, such as the coffee liqueurs that have been
mentined. Liquer is a nice name for a klutzy cat, but it's not
    an English word.

| | Sorry, I'm not trying to pick on people's spelling. We all make
mistakes. I know of at least one misspelling in a posting I did
yesterday. But if we're going to argue over which coffee flavored
alcohol is brewed where, and which costs more and has more alcohol,
then I didn't think I was getting to far afield, especially when
    the typo was copied.

I think that some mistakes are like cats. If there's danger of
them propagating unnecessarily, they should be fixed.

| | Okay Gary, you made your point..I was one of those tacky people
who rather than look up the proper spelling just copied the error
on, as did others...by the way "mentined" has an "o" in it... :-)

Are all cat owners as persnickity as I seem to come across in this
file? I am a DOG LOVER, but like cats and have been thinking of
getting one. However I hesitate to ask for anything in this file
at the risk of getting beat on for LOVING dogs...and feeling that
some of you take your cat loving a little too far....(cats should
be licensed just as dogs...and I HATE people who let their cats
run. I love birds too, and am tired of other people's cats killing
"my" birds on my property. I can't have a bird feeder because of
two neighbor's cats...and don't tell me to ask them to keep their
cats away..I have..their opinion, the same as some of you here,
is that cats have a RIGHT to roam. My dogs never did, nor the other
cat I had a few years ago. At the risk of really taking abuse, I
don't care for people who are cruel to animals..but there have been
instances where if I had my hands on those cats I would gladly ring
their necks. Well, now that I've sounded off, and have all you
    Cat-o-philes ready to pounce...).

Maybe I will at sometime ask for help in the cat hunt...because
I have no idea where to find breeders of specific breeds, but right
now I think I will wait.

    	Re: .37

I think that your reply should be a note in its own since
I expect that several people would like to reply, and it
has nothing to do with "I need a name". I have alot of things
to say, but please don't take them as being an attack.

As far as cat owners being "persnickity"... well, this
note was the first in a while of people jumping on one
another. And for the most part, I think we were in jest.
Many of us know one another (both in person and thru
notes) and will tease those whose names are familiar.

As far as getting beat on for loving DOGS! Thats ridiculous!
Just because we love cats doesn't mean we dislike all other
types of animals. Just the opposite in fact! Most of us like
all animals (even if we prefer cats). But to each his own!
I thinks its great that you LOVE dogs but also LIKE cats. If
you don't already have a cat and do decide to get one, you may
discover that you LOVE cats too!

AS far as "some of you take your cat loving too far"... well
I must admit, some of the noters take cat loving alot furthur
than I would take it, but I'm sure some people think I take
it too far. Just because a bunch of noters hop on the band
wagon and donate money/time to a hard luck case is no reason for
you to feel guilty because YOU didn't! I never have. I have
my own opinion on the matter and feel that if I did have money
or time to donate, I would donate it to people first. But since
I don't have enough of either to give away, the point is moot...

The issue of letting cats run outside is a controversial subject
and there is no "RIGHT" answer. That, and several other issues,
have no "right" answer. Or, stated another way, everyones
answer is "right" for them. These issues are best left alone.
There may be notes where people ask "should my cat be let outside"
and people will give their opinions. Based on these opinions,
people form their own answer. Sometimes the conversation gets
a bit heated and it is best not to get involved but sometimes
even I can't resist if I feel that a personal attack has been
    	made on my values.

Please do continue to read this file! And if you do decide
to get a cat, well, you can certainly find one here.

    	Karen

| 1836.40 | Note-wide appology | DWOVAX::BROWN |  | Fri Oct 14 1988 16:17 | 35 |
| | Karen,

You are correct. I intended to only rib someone on their being
nit-picky. Unfortunately it is a bad day, I am in the office with
nothing to do..and started looking thru this conference for some
cat purchasing ideas. Not to keep this going in this particular
note, since as you said it doesnt belong here...a lot of the notes
are from people who seem to be very warm caring people. But I did
come across an ABUNDANCE of notes, 1987 grouping, from people who seem
to feel dogs are worthless little critters..and alot of opinions
that cats are above critism of any kind.

As far as my comment about "some of you take your cat loving too
far"..and your response "Just because a bunch of noters hop on the
band wagon and donate money/time to hard luck cases is no reason
for you to feel guilty because YOU didn't". I dont understand how
you came up with my comment leading you to think I'm against caring
for animals. I do. I spent inordinate amounts of time at the Marine
Mammal Stranding Center in NJ trying to rescue dolphins and seals..
I was saying what I said about "going too far" in terms of the attitude
that cats dont need to be disciplined, etc. And the impression that
I get from some letters that cats are peoples children? Its a moot
point anyway. I am sorry that you took it to mean what you did.

I also appologize for taking my bad day out on the people in this
file who DO seem to be caring individuals who love cats and also
accept them for what they are, animals and pets. Please accept the
    appology.

Sorry this is still in this note. But I really didnt see the point
to take the time to move it elsewhere. I was not trying to attack
anyones' values. Sorry if it seemed that way. I am not from the
Boston area, so no, I am not one of the group.

    Kate

| | Kate, It's not true that us cat people think less of dogs. I have
three dogs of my own, along with my six cats. I have to admit that
cats are easier than dogs, but I wouldn't part with any of my
"childern" (and I do consider them my kids cause I don't have any
two legged kids). It's also possible that you might love cats if
you were to get one just like me. I use to consider myself as the
ex cat hater, not that I hatted cats but I wasn't overly fond of
them. Now look at me I have six cats and love them very much (they
tend to grow on you). I would probably have more dogs but my husband
would definitly kill me. As for cats killing birds I do have one
that likes to hunt so I keep a collar with bells on it to help.
One time she even got hold of a robin and we took the bird to the
vet who took it home to take care of it (some people thought we
were nuts but I didn't care). Well if you do decide to get a cat
let us know and welcome to this file.

organization that helps animals is not good. Its great!
Its just that I have seen people in this notes file offer
large amounts of money to PARTICULAR CATS "the hard luck cases"
I was refering to, when I feel that, for myself, that money
would be much better employed by donating to an organization
that helps animals. And, I sometimes DO feel a bit guilty
because I didn't help fly Sabonns cat across the county, or
because I didn't donate money to other hard luck cats. But
I just couldn't morally justify that money so I didn't donate
it!! That comment I made, referred entirely to me, and I believe
that I stated so in my previous note by saying that I DON'T
hop on the bandwagon! I sort of assumed that what my definition
of going to far, and what others defintition of going too far
were the same, but they aren't.

And as far as those 1987 notes, I can't recall them, probably
because I didn't start reading feline till late 1987.

Well, please don't misinterpret what I said. I guess I've been
wanting to justify myself for not donating money when all the
others were and I chose this note to do it!

Hi Cathy and welcome to feliners! I'm just getting caught up on
notes as I have been out for the past week.

I think you'll find that the people who participate in this file
are very caring, sharing, open and definitely humorous. I've found
these people to be friendly, informative, willing to listen to you
whether it's to "flame off" or get a load of your chest, etc. And
I also know that there are some participants who have other pets/furry
friends that are not cats. I for one have two cats, one horse and
a 5 month old puppy. True, I too consider them to be my children
because I don't have any two legged ones, at the moment.

I admit I was not always a cat lover until I met my first "cool"
cat, Tasha and I was completely won over when *I* was adopted by
my first cat, Harry. Now I find that I have a great love for cats,
horses and dogs (I originally was just a dog lover).

Well, whenever you decide to get a kitty or two, or three, you'll
know where to go. I'm sure you'll be able to get a little *treasure*
here. Good luck and again WELCOME!
