| 1722.1 | Argus's symptoms when he was constipated | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Wed Aug 31 1988 11:09 | 16 |
| | He could be, especially if he is a bit overweight, but if he is,
    you won't see symptoms for a few days. Argus, who is
    an FUS cat (who *was* very overweight) would sometimes act like he
    had a urinary track blockage yet was having no problem urinating.
    By "act like he had a urinary track blockage", I mean that he would
    follow me all over the house trying to show me that he couldn't
    go. Also, he had thrown up a couple of times prior to this. I whisked
    him off to the vet. They gave him some kind of a stool softener
    shot, and kept him for observation (i.e., until he went to the box).
    Luckily for him, the shot worked, otherwise they were planning on
    an enema. The vet told me that constipation is very common among
    overweight cats, and suggested that I give him some bulk on a regular
    basis, i.e., either add some bran or metamuciel to his diet. Since
    I've started doing that, we haven't had any problems.

| 1722.2 | Hard for cats ! | AIMHI::BOYKO |  | Wed Aug 31 1988 16:44 | 8 |
| | My cat was over weight and constipated constantly. The vet
    recommended a stool softner called "Laxatone" which works well
    for getting rid of hair balls as well. The cat is fine as
    long as I give him this softner on the edge of his nose, which
    in turn, he licks, solving the problem.

    Good luck!

| | Umm. Er. You're positive he hasn't dropped them elsewhere?
    If so, ask your vet. He's in the best position to tell what
    the problem is.

    Good luck,
    Karen, Tristan and Tenzing.

| | I can help you cure both situations! Why just the other night my
    husband remarked that whoever it was that invented Science Diet
    R/D (Reduction Diet) obviously wasn't assigned to litter box duty!
