    My one year old "Sadie" has developed a lump under her skin on
    her shoulder.  It is firm and oblong and will move around a little
    bit under her skin.  She doesn't seem to feel pain or notice when
    I touch it but she has been more grumpy than usual lately (not wanting
    to be held or picked up) though that may be because my husbands
    kids are here to visit and the house is quite a bit more hectic.
    
    I found one other notes entry on "limpomas" which this sounds like.
    I am probably going to take her to the vet after work today but
    worry that they might have to cut her open to look at it.
    
    I sure don't want to lose her and it's choking me up..... my dad died
    from cancer and I couldn't bear to watch that again.
    
    Any ideas, similar stories with happy endings, or prayers???

	It may be a small abcess,...especially if you have another cat. If so it may need to be drained and Sadie would need to be given antibiotics to clear all infection from her system. If this is the problem it's fairly easy to treat as long as you're sure to follow up with giving all medications the vet recommends. There are probably several other things that could cause such a lump, but a small abcess is probably the most common... Does anyone else have any thoughts??

	Not to worry. Benign tumors and cysts are very common in felines and humans. My cat has had them and I've had them. I'm quite sure your vet will take care of Sadie without any difficulty whatsoever. We wish her the very best and please let us know how she made out. Bernice

	My recollection is that lumps that can be moved are not very likely to be cancer. Has your puss been vaccinated lately? Sometimes a local reaction to vaccination leaves a lump like that for a few months. Please let us know what's going on.

	I agree with the previous noters - probably not alot to worry about. There is also one more thought - she could have a bit or scratch (as suggested by a noter) or she could have been stung/bitten by an insect and the swelling hasn't gone down yet. I've seen bug bites on our horse which look like tumors, but they eventually disappear. Haven't seen them on my cats but that doesn't mean they are not there.

	I think I'm on my way to a happy ending..... I finally called my vet (I'll leave it to the psychologists as to why I waited) and found that since Sadie just had a rabies vaccination last month (you guys had it pegged all along!!) that it is common for a lump to form 2-3 weeks afterward as a reaction, and that this lump should not be painful and will last about a month. So all the pieces fit & I will keep an eye on her & *am I relieved!* Thank you all so much ! Sue
