My wife and I are seriously considering moving here to Munich to
live permanently, probably some time next year. The question is,
do any of the noters know of the rules and regulations regarding
bringing our four cats from England to Germany? I would assume that,
as England is rabies-free, there should be no quarantine (for the
kitties' sakes, I hope so) although I expect that they will have
to have anti-rabies jabs and possibly others.
I also remember reading, in a British Airways flight mag, about
a British firm that arranges pet flights, including carriers and
escort personnel. Do any of you know of this company? The article
was very complimentary and described how the pets were brought to
an overnight (or longer) boarding kennels to let the animals get
used to the carriers and the escort prior to the flight. Unfortunately,
I seem to have mislaid my copy. Any help would be much appreciated.

| Yes, I read that article too, or something very similar. But I
have no idea what the company was called! Have you tried ringing
British Airways - perhaps the publicity department?

| We have travelled with our cats extensively. We moved to Canada
with 2 cats from the UK. There is a Kennel/cattery near Heathrow
which sells the correct travelling cases for flying. I think it
is called SKY Link or similar. It is very large and handles some
of the quarantine animals. The boxes come in many sizes and are
made of wood (True not easy to clean but we've had ours for 7 years).
These boxes are fine for cars and flight. New UK rules say there
has to be holes on 5 sides/top of the kennels (watch out for this...)
If in doubt check with the German Consulate and Airways. For Canada
we did not have rabies shots but our vet had to state that they
were healthy etc. Also the vet had to be a MIN Agriculture Vet
and had to sign a statement that there were no rabies in the immediate
are for 6 months (crazy). This paper then had to be verified by
the MIN of Agr somewhere. After all that the rest was a piece
of cake - the Canadians didn't even look at it. Just took it.....
The cheapest way (if you are flying) is to fly at the same time
and treat them as excess baggage (not literally). Just make sure
the airline knows you are travelling with animals well before you
leave .... as there may be only limited heated space (Most airlines
have baggage holds that are pressurized just not very warm)
My cats have flown every where I've lived in the last 7 years.
They are tranquilized because they are neurotic ( the third one
as well) no comments please...... But if your beasts are mellow
it is not necessary nor is it recommended. I have (I should say
we husband of course) have had very little problems as long as
you make reservations well ahead of time. However each time they
fly I am a bag of nerves ...... but so far it's been fine. We
just had our last flight 3 months ago .....
