Most of our kitties came to us in this way too.

. I went out to get a black male kitty and wound up taking home
the female black kitty of the litter - Cleo.

. I went to get a black male kitty and wound up taking home a
mackeral-striped black and grey tabby from the shelter -
      Clancy.

. Before Mike and I became "roomies", I was supposed to pick out
his kitten for him, but too late. A co-worker gave him little Annie.

. Mike wanted an orange kitty so Annie could have a playmate - my
friend found a little black and white stray kitten.....we named
      her Lucy.

. A friend found a 3 month old tiger kitten with double toes on
all four paws - we took her in *temporarily* and she wound up
      staying - Mittsy.
. We went to the shelter to get an orange kitty - we adopted
Sammy, a black stub-tailed manx mix sweetie.

. A friend needed to find a home for her long-haired grey, white
and beige female cat - we found a home and took her in for the
intervening month....which turned out to be permanently -
      Pistachio.

. A calico cat was spending her days outside my church, no collar
and always seemed to be hungry....Noel.
. I first saw her when she was just about to give birth to a litter
of kittens. I came back a couple of days later to find her with
four babies and living outside. Asked around the neighborhood
and found out they were strays....Amber and Lucas, Buster Brown,
      Nellie and Marco Polo.

Carole - soon to be the adopted mother of a 6 year old Lhasa Apso/
Poodle mix male named Muffin. What can I do, her 75 year
old "father" can't take him to the retirement home?!

P.S. Not all of the above mentioned little ones are still with
us, though as you can tell they live on in our hearts!

| | We always have something like this happen whenever we decide to
get another animal. Usually we'll be talking about getting an animal
and make all the arrangements and then a day or two before we get
it a stray little furball will show up and say I want to adopt you.
By now we've gotten smart and know that when we talk about getting
another cat that it will actually be two cats that we get:-)

| | Sweetie, a black/grey tabby who was supposed to be orange. What
I want to know is, has anyone ever gone out to the shelter and come
back with a cat that resembled in the _slightest_ what they had
    in mind originally. :-) :-) :-) :-)

| 979.5 | Born to Kitty Shop ! | TOPDOC::TRACHMAN |  | Mon Dec 21 1987 16:50 | 12 |
| | Well Karen, sort of.... I went to the Lowell Humane Society
to shop for a black & white boy (never ever had a black & white
kitty in my whole life so I had to have one) and actually came
home with Mister Miyagi who IS black & white, but also came home
with Lara The Lady who IS NOT black & white, but a silver patched
classic tabby!! I sometimes wonder where she came from - I also
think that her whiskers aren't glued on too tight!
The only reason I went shopping that day was because I was taking
Ivan to the Vet next door for his shot - of course I had to stop
    and kitty shop.

Actually I did go a shelter once and pick up the exact dog I went
down to pick up [Black Great Dane/Grand Pyrenees mix - Chelsea].

Yup. She was the one all right.

I was signing my name to the check when, "aren't you the lady from
up Pilot Point way who ..." and the entire contents of 'Death Row'
were added at no extra charge.

Two dogs: Lhasa/something mix "Ragg Mopp"
    		   apparent shepherd/border collie "Killashandra"

Three cats: Mother & two kittens "Amber, Onyx & Opal"

See? even when you get the 'right' animal, something's bound to
    happen.

| 979.7 | From Orange to Seal-point??? | 32096::BURLEW | Purr is my favorite sound! | Mon Dec 21 1987 17:17 | 7 |
| | Last March Tom and I went looking for an orange kitten. Our minds
were firmly set that the kitten would be orange. Well, our orange
kitten turned into a seal-point Himalayan (Sherlock). Now we're
talking about getting a playmate for Sherlock. We've decided that
we want another Himalayan or a Persian. Wonder what we'll get???

| 979.8 | Chauncey, too | CLUSTA::TAMIR | To a cat, all things belong to cats | Mon Dec 21 1987 21:15 | 12 |
| | Well, I guess my little Chauncey was the "wrong cat", too. I went
to see a little flame point kitten, and this little guy just wouldn't
leave me alone. He was very skittish, his eyes were a mess with
conjunctivis, he was sneezing and had a runny nose...I fell in love.
And even with all the visits to opthamologists and neurologists
and dentists and everyone else, I cannot imagine life without him.

Ande, I know what happened to you! Those big blue eyes and that
little brown nose...who could have resisted!! (That's what happened
to me when I got Honey.)

| | I wanted a Long-haired, Black kitten to go with my Long-haired White
    cat.

    I ended up with a Very Smooth-coated Calico/Siamese cross.

Wouldn't trade Deja Vu for anything.

| | When I first heard about Merlin, the description was a "female,
long-hair, orange colored kitten"..... and thought that the kitty
would go well with our long-hair, orange colored Coon male.

Well, the only correct part of the description was that it was a
kitten. When I first saw this short hair, white/gray/brown (how
the person ever got orange out of this mixture is beyond me) I was
definately taken aback, but within that nanosecond, the little bug
had stolen my heart. Then, when we took "her" to the vet, we were
told of the gender misconception... so "Samantha" become "Merlin"
and has owned our hearts since then!

| | I took my cat Bailey to a cat show in Napa. I had one cat and had
absolutely no intention of expanding my family since I was pushing
my rental agreement to the limit already.

After much persuasion by friends and my sister, I took a little
brown tabby and white kitten home. She had a massive case of ear
mites and, as I discovered the next day, a pretty big kitty cold
    (which she shared with Bailey).

Who's the little sickly kitty that warmed her way into my heart?
Amelia Earhart...7th Best Household Pet in the Northwest Region
and one of the most loving cats anyone could ask for.

How could I ever have had any doubts about taking such a sweet
    little girl home?
