| | There are *lots* of cat-names here; try looking through notes 12,
    134, and 310, for starters.

Free association is also fun. Furbones? Persian Gold? Perfur?

I find that it doesn't matter what you name 'em - you'll wind up
with a dozen additional names to murmer into his fur...

adopting your little angel!!!!! Hmmmm how's that grab you?
Angel.... have to admit I've never heard that one for a cat's
    name! Just a quick thought........

| | Or, if you want a friend, you could call him "Amigo."

It doesn't matter, really. You could call him Re, the Magnificant,
for the Egyptian solar god who once took the form of a cat, or anything
else, and eventually you'll have a nickname for him. [Our cat,
Merlin, is also called by me "Puppy cat," or "puppy," and "cheese
cat" (I just discovered he likes to eat cheesecake); my wife also
calls him "Purser," "Ugly," and "Inch Worm."]

| | Give him time to get used to you, and his new life as an indoor
cat. Cats have a way of picking out their own names.
Just be careful that you don't bias the decision, but frequently
using the same phrases like: "would you care for more tuna?" or
"perhaps a bit of cheese?". "Tuna" or "Cheese" make embarassing
    names for cats.

.4 brings up a gripe. I tried to modify the title but it said I
didn't have the priviledges to do it. I can do it in other notes
files, but not in this one. Is that because we are running a different
    version than most?

| | How lucky you are to be "found" by a cat! Cats are the best friends
    in the world.
Being gold and adding all the joy and brightness to your life
that I am sure he will, I would call him Sunshine. Sunny for
    short.
Of course you will end up calling him by all kinds of love names
as well as his real name. Mushy things like pumpkin pie, cream puff,
    etc.
But I think Sunshine is an appropriate name for the new bright
    spot in your life.!

Only the moderator or author of a note can change the title. The potential
for chaos if it were any other way is too great.

I believe she was referring to a reply she herself had written,
    right Sharon?

I think there may be a different way to change the tiltle of a reply.
Look in help. Perhaps you must specify the reply number? (884.X?)

| | Looking in HELP won't help. YOGI is running a version of NOTES at least
two versions behind the current software. This version does not allow the
owner to change their own titles.
Although it might be nice for the software to be updated, I'm glad the
conference has a home. Please note that the moderators don't control this
machine.

| 884.12 | Country Western Kitty? | EMIRFI::KEENER |  | Wed Nov 11 1987 13:48 | 15 |
| | We always did the obvious and checked out kitty's personality except
when "Muffin" had kittens (six) and they were named after Winne
the Pooh characters that happened to fit the kitty. Pooh Bear was
what started it - his face looked like Disney's version of Pooh.
Tigger was gray tabby and considered himself quite the gay blade
and on the go. We still have Christopher (Robin) who was the more
sane of the the group - he's ten and still with his mommy.

Although I really don't suggest it - some friends have two cats
and are great Country Western music fans. The cats are (get this!)
Tabby Wynette and Conway Kitty. A bit much? Just thought someone
might get a kick out of it.

| 884.14 | How we named our kitties | PLANET::WATKINS | Don't mind me-low brain cell count | Fri Nov 13 1987 09:22 | 17 |
| | As most people have said, it's the personality that makes the name,
unless you have a unique name that you already had in mind.

We named our first kitten "Hannah" for reasons unknown. It fits
her though. (Funny, we just heard a friend-of-a-friend named their
cat "Hannah," also) When she had her kittens, we named them Alex,
(my favorite people-name) Noah (because the kittens were born during
the flood we had earlier this year) Eve (another biblical name
for lack of anything to call her. We started calling her Evening
because she was black. The family who adopted her is Spanish, and
we hear they call her Eva) and last but not least, Scarlett, after
Scarlett O'Hara. She's really beautiful, though more than a little
daffy. She'll let you do anything to her (tip her upside down,
hold her like a baby) and still purr. She's just got this "look"
    on her face.

| | First...thank you for all of the help and suggestions...My "new"
little buddy is doing great - slept for 2 days after coming back
from the Vet but is doing wonderful now. Seems like he was just
always a part of our family and I find myself looking forward to
going home and seeing how he is doing. The Vet says he was very
undernourished and full of worms but should pull through just fine.
We had the proper shots, tubed for worms, ears done and flea dip.
My pocketbook is empty but my heart feels great!!! and of course
our "friend" does a non-stop purr and tail wag...

As far a name....well, we decided to wait and let him do that himself
************************* Will fill you in when it happens.

    Thanks again....Wendy

| 884.16 | Georgie | IPG::KCAMPBELL |  | Mon Nov 16 1987 12:00 | 19 |
| | Just to show it happens all over the world, we were also adopted
by a cat. He's a huge grey tabby with a white bit and socks. He
dribbles whenever he gets excited and so we called him Georgie.
    The reason?

Well, there was a famous British footballer called Georgie Best
who is famous for being able to dribble the ball extremely well...
We gave him the name in jest on his first day with us and it stuck!!

We think it's appropriate and it suits him just fine!!

    Best wishes,

    Karen
    (Reading, England)

PS Wendy: maybe your pussycat will do something endearing and
        earn himself a name?

Then why not name him BUDDY. I think that would be perfect.
