| I had very little trouble finding an apt. that takes cats. A cpouple
of places firmly stood on the no pets rule. The place I am currently
living asked for an extra $150 for a pet deposit. I thought that
was a small price to pay for getting to keep my cat. When it came
time to sign the lease they asked me if my cat was declawed. And
I explained no, but if you look at the condition of my furniture
you could see that I let the cat dig everything up but did not let
the cat sharpen her claws on the rug. The landlord was very impressed
decided I was a responsible owner and waved the fee. I have had
to move four times in the last five years and with a little looking
I found it fairly easy to find someplace that let me keep the furry
beast.
On the other hand my experience has shown that cats hate to
move. Especially the part where all their lovely belondings like
couches and chairs are getting packed up. But I think with the extra
bit of love we show her that she seems to handle it okay. Also the
very last thing I move is the cat. I feel real sorry for them. They
must feel as if they are in a twilight zone episode where everytime
they come in something is missing. Then I guess she must have felt
relieved when I took her. After all, all the furniture was gone,
all the people were gone she was probably very happy to find herself
back amongst her familiar odours and sounds.
Some extra attention really seems to help.

| On our recent move we had a very hard time finding an apartment
that would allow our cats unless we wanted to move to the real slums
of Nashua. What we found was a rental agency I guess you'd call
them. There was a small fee like $30 I believe. We just told them
what we looking for and the price range we wanted. Said we had
the cats and needed a place with no lease. Thought we'd never find
one with those specifications but she had one right away. Suprisingly
if we had wanted to pay the higher rent she had some at very nice
condo complexes. This landlord asked for a $100 pet deposit. SO
you might want to see if there are these types of agencies in your
area I would think they are everywhere. Just make sure that you
find out up front how much their fee is... It sure beats trying
to find one yourself especially when you keep hearing "SORRY, no
pets allowed"

| I had a LOT of trouble finding an apartment that allowed pets so
I gave up asking. I am now living in Worcester and the lease says
no pets, but I have 2 cats. When I moved in there were a few cats
and dogs in the 3 buildings this landlord owns even though we
all got the no pets lease. The landlord doesn't seem to care, but
he keeps the no pets rule in case there's a problem, like when
someone's dog kept going to the bathroom on the roof (connected
to that person's window). The dog and owner are gone, but everyone
else still has their pets.
I also found out this weekend that 4 other DECies live in these
buildings, so you're welcome to join the gang ;-) It's at 72 West
Street, a few blocks from WPI in Worcester. The landlord is Dan
Rourke, if you want I'll get you his number tonight.
Oh, it has a laundry room.

he lives there ;-)

| I had the worse time trying to find a place for Smurf and myself.
I know that Windsor Heights (think thats what it's called) in Marlboro
used to allow pets, I think they charged an extra $25 per month.
Be careful with extra pet deposits though.. I put $275 down as a
deposit for Smurf at one place and because of a small spot on the
rug (which they deemed reason to replace the whole rug) they kept
the pet deposit for that.........and Smurf had nothing to do with
the spot!

| The apartment complex I live at allows Cats. The address is
Coach Estates, 55 Brook Street, Acton, MA. The rent includes heat
and is one of the cheaper places in Acton. I've been there a year
and just signed a lease for a second year. I've found this place
to be well managed. They also have a pool in the summer!
