I just read about a jillion notes (I just got back from vacation)
and have noticed a repeated concern.

I have seen several entries referring to how worried people are
about cats getting their flea collars caught on branches or other
snags and injuring themselves. I feel moved to repeat a statement
I heard some time ago bout this:

Always put a collar on an animal in such a way that it will slip
over the animal's head with a minimum of resistance. ALWAYS!!!!

I don't know where I hear this (vet, flea collar box, or what) but
the idea is that the collar should stay put in normal circumstances
but, if the animal gets the collar caught, the collar can slip off.
This way, if the animal gets caught, the inevitable struggle releases
    the beast.

Yours hoping to prevent unnecessary tragedy.

| 717.1 | Kitty can take off her collar | CADSYS::RICHARDSON | Fri Aug 21 1987 13:01 | 10 | |
| Nebula is real good at taking her flea collar off and dropping it
on the bed. It doesn't seem to matter how sugly it is attached,
and its not that she is getting caught somewhere, she just likes
getting per paw under it and pushing the buckle until it is all
the way off. The buckles aren't very snug anyhow, so that the
kitty will not get hung up on the collar.

I don't put a collar on JFCL anymore since she was allergic to one
kind I tried, poor critter. Nebula is the one who goes out the
most and so is more likely to bring home bugs anyhow.

| I bought a "break-away" flea collar for my neighbor's cat. if
there is any pressure exerted on it, it will break.Got it
    at my local grain store.

Do you recall the brand name? Where was it purchased? Sounds
    like a great idea.
