| I get chased (or maybe raced) when it is feeding time at our house.
We have a feeding system, with five cats in the house you have to
have a system. Two of the cats get fed first in the front bathroom,
they are on the same type of food. The other three chase me to
the front bathroom, wait at the door and then chase me back to the
kitchen where I pick up their dishes, and then race me to the back
bathroom where they are fed. It sounds like a heard of elephants
running down the hallway! They always beat me to the back bathroom.
Maybe we should add this to the list of benefits from having cats...

| Amelia will dash up to me and grab me with both paws (no claws)
and dash away just as quickly. Its as if we're playing tag and
suddenly I'm it.

| I was just wondering... do most cats "learn" to like to be chased, etc. or are
some cats into it and others not?? I have two, one who's really kind of shy,
he's about 6 years old and I got him from a "broken home" where he was abused
when he was about 2. His name is Guido, and although he's very affectionate
(every time I lay or sit down he comes up to cuddle with me and will jump up
and bat my hand to make me pet him), he freaks if I pick him up and any fast
movement sends him to the back of the dark closet. My other cat, Taji, who I
got as a kitten loves to be picked up, will follow me anywhere, also is quite
the cuddler, and makes it very obvious that he's glad to see me (even if I'm
just coming in to a room that he's in and he's seen me just a few minutes ago),
but also doesn't seem to like it if I move quickly towards him. Are they just
paranoid? Or am I imagining the "worried look" I see on their faces when this
happens?

| Hi Mary! Most cats do not like quick, sudden movement or
sudden loud noise of any kind. I'm really not sure why it
scares them, it just does. The 'tolerance' level of each
cat seems to vary with this type of behavior. This is my
experience with my 4 cats. What about others...?

| We've had many cats who liked to play tag, and some who never did.
Those who did enjoy being chased had to know it was a game; they'd
be just as startled by unexpected noises as the others, but if we
went through the preliminaries - making "Mrrrt" noises like the
cats do when asking to play, hiding around a corner and peeping
out at them, etc. - they would immediately go into "game" mode,
crouching wide-eyed and ready to run.
It's great fun, but you might have to warn visiting guests that
they may find you on all fours some day, meowing at the cat...

| The ONLY way to catch Teddy is to get down on all fours and pretend
to stalk him. He loves to play tag but doesn't particularly like
to be held although he's quite affectionate in other ways.
Since cats as a species are natural hunters, it seems logical to
me that they would like to stalk you and play tag. Personally I
have a lot of fun chasing my younger cats. The older ones refuse
to play any more and give me a "You must be kidding" look or walk
away :-) :-}.
