| | Chauncey has a thing for emery boards as well. Honey could care
less about them. And neither of them seem to care about the real
fur mouse that I keep stepping on. When Chauncey had gingivitis,
I had to brush his gums with peroxide and milk, using a little kiddie
type toothbrush (the kind with Mickey, Minnie, or Donald on
them...remember?). Now he chews on the brush as a toy (if I could
only get some toothpaste on it...old Buffalo Breath could use it!).

Speaking of emery boards, do any other cats out there "bite" their
fingernails? Honey will sit and chew away at his claws and will
remove what looks like a claw shell. I've never seen another cat
    do it. Maybe he's molting!

| | Pip also has a thing for tooth brushes. When I first got her, she
would sit on the corner of the bathroom sink and watch me brush
my teeth. She then got bold and one day after I put my toothbrush
back in the holder, she started chewing on it. Needless to say,
I got a new toothbrush but I left the old one for her. Now, every
morning I wet the old brush for her and she chews it while I brush
by teeth. She must be doing a pretty good job because when she went
in for her annual 50,000 mile checkup the vet remarked about how
    very clean her teeth were.

| | Cosette and Fantine also pull out claw shells. I wish all the cats
would pull out sharp claws -- THAT would be a handy trick.

Jo, Nutmeg and Tag-Along are in New Jersey to be bred. Let's hope
they don't go out of heat (or at least not for too, too long).

    Mary,

Mutu cleans her nails also. It's the strangest sound, isn't it?
She puts a claw in her mouth and pulls it through her teeth. When
she's really mellow, i.e. kneading and drooling, she cleans my nails
    too! Strange cat...

| | Winston is the only one of my cats who chews his claws and he only
does the back ones. The front ones are taken care of by the scratching
    post I guess.

MY BRUNO (AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS BRU-KITTY KITTY) SOMETIMES "MOLTS"
HIS CLAWS. HE DOESN'T BITE THEM THOUGH. I WILL FIND THEM LAYING
ABOUT ON MY CARPET (USUALLY STUCK IN THE CARPET). THIS HAS LITTLE
EFFECT ON ME, HOWEVER, MY FUTURE HUSBAND (AS MANLY AS HE IS) IS
FLUNG INTO A HYSTERICAL FRENZY OVER THE SIGHT OF ONE OF THESE GASTLY
DISCARDS! SORRY - I CAN'T HELP ON AN EXPLANATION THOUGH! ANYONE
    ELSE?

| | Hi Lisa,

I have a friend who also thinks that a claw molt is the most disgusting
thing on Earth. But he's wrong...the most disgusting thing is the
*sound* Honey makes when he chews his nails!! AARRGGGHHH! Of course,
he always finds time about 2:00 a.m. to attend to his toilette...

    You're lucky Bru doesn't chew!

| | Geez, I always thought the little claw shells were kind of cute
and interesting, sort of like finding a snake's shedded skin in
    the backyard....
