| Yes, Fire can be found on the cover of the October 1985 Cats Magazine
Awards Issue. He was also on page 57 in the same issue which was
the CFF ad for their 1985 Parade of Perfection winners. Fire was
also featured in several CFF ads throughout 1986 in Cats Magazine.
Thanks Dave for creating this topic. I just love to brag about
my baby!!!

| I was approached by a photographer that wanted to take pictures
of two of my household pets for use (possible) in ad campaigns and
cat calenders. No word from him yet tho.

You can have as many of your cats pictured in the yearbook as you
want as long as your willing to pay the price. The CFA yearbook
is quite expensive for color pictures.
I also forgot to mention, that Fire and Lucky (Copper-eyed White
Male Persian) are pictured in the CFF yearbook for both 1984 and
1985.

| Ooops, another picture!!! Fire is also pictured in the CFA yearbook
for 1984 (I think) in his breeders ad. Look for the ad for Thesaurus
placed by Karen Marshall.

| CFA dropped their price last year to something far more reasonable.
And the B/W were a steal. (And since my prime kitty happens to be
in black and white himself, why pay for colorization and loose artistic
value?)

| Total response directly to ad.
7 kitten requests
8 stud requests
Ad cost approximately $70-120. total return on stud fees was around
$1500. Didn't have kittens available for callers, but could refer
in every case. Goodwill return on references was about 5 kittens
placed.
Besides, I got Crunch in the yearbook.
One of these years, I'm going to take a full page ad with ALL my
cats, and as many kittens we bred as are available.
Should be fun!

| I have an ad coming up in the latest CFA yearbook (due out this
month) with 2 of my girls in it: GR CH Beaudee's Annie, and GR CH
Connaught Clairseach (pronounced Clairsa) of Beaudee. It is a full
page color ad (cost a bit over $400!). My friend Claudia Moore
(Connaught cattery) placed such an ad last year with her top kitten
of the year in it, and has had a return of over $5000 in top show
kitten sales. Obviously this works only if you have several top
show kittens available.... Another CFA related publication that
I've heard is a good one to advertise in, is the Cat Fancier's
Newsletter. Formerly the Southwest Regional Newsletter, this national
publication has only black and white ads, but charges only $50 for
a one time full page ad! Debbie B. and I have talked about doing
an ad with Annie (mentioned above) and little (full) brother, Laforet's
Winston Churchill.
Anyone who subscribes to the Cat Fancier's Almanac (published
by CFA) can see Annie in the 'Grand Stand' in the November 1986
issue. When your cat earns a grand championship in CFa you get a
deluge of mail from different publications (Cat World, CF Almanac,
CF Newsletter, etc.). Ususally they ask for a black and white picture,
and about $10 to publish it along with the kitty's name, etc. It's
fun, and I for one ALWAYS look at the grand pictures in these
publications.
Anyone interested in the purchase of a CFA Yearbook - I will put
the address and price for ordering in another note (I think it's
$24.95) It is a quality publication, with several interesting breed
and or genetics articles in each yearbook. There are over 600 pages
over color and black and white photos of every sort of cat you can
imagine. I still can spend hours looking over my old yearbooks.
I love to look up pictures of cats that are in my kittens' pedigrees...

| I just received a package from CATS magazine in the mail yesterday.
I don't subscribe to it (yet) but they got my name and address somehow.
The info was about advertising my cattery in the Cats Magazine breeder
directory annual. Can someone help me with this. What exactly
is it and what can it do for me. Is it too early to worry about
this since my only Birman is only 5 months old and I own no Grands?
What kind of an ad did you all place when you where just starting
out? How far along were you in your cattery (# of cats, litters
of kittens, grands etc.) before you decided to advertise? What
criteria did you use for your adververtisement?

We are just a few months ahead of you. Nutmeg and Tag-Along are
going to meet Quicksilver in New Jersey this weekend. I now
realize that N and T-A's mother's first two litters were each
5 kittens. Egad!
Has anyone tried to place kittens with ads in a newspaper, such
as the Boston Globe. (About 5 years ago I saw an ad for some
Russian Blues in the Sunday Globe, and by the time I phoned,
a few days later, they were all sold. I wasn't quite ready for
more then, but I never saw another such ad.)
Somehow, to me, an ad in CATS seems too much like "big business,"
and I am just getting started. Also, I'd rather meet the potential
owners rather than ship kitties off to persons unknown, and CATS
provides a nationwide market. (Um, maybe if I have 10 kittens,
I'll need that!)
Actually, several people have already sent me mail about our
prospective progeny. How do those of you who advertise screen
buyers if they are total strangers? Do kittens ever really sell
at shows (and *then* how do you get a sense for the buyer???)?

The two litters ago I was working at DEC in Westminster. All I
did was put an ad on the cafeteria cork board. I had to ask them
to take it down after 2 weeks because all the kitties were sold
and I was still getting calls. In fact one man insisted that I
reconsider (the kittens were sold but two had not been delivered).
He wanted me to visit his home and then visit the home of the lady
I had sold one of the kittens to. He said he was sure I would like
his house much better and therefore sell him the cat. People are
funny sometimes.

| The CFA Yearbook is here!!!!!
I just got my yearbook last week (you get a "free" copy when
you advertise). If anyone else has one coming, or is thinking about
it, this is a really nice one. The are several interesting articles,
including a history of the Scottish Fold breed with LOTS of pictures.
My ad is on page 320, and has two of my girls in it (mentioned in
an earlier reply). I've ALREADY had responses to it. The very
week the yearbook came out, I took Claire (who appears in the ad)
to a show, and one of the "campaigners" RAN up and asked me if this
was the cat in my ad. I have about 5 requests for kittens, just
from the ad - so far....
The CFA yearbook includes pictures of all the cats who attained
CFA grand championship (or grand premiership during that show year
(May 1 to April 30), private ads (color and black/white - all sizes),
photos of the top 20 cats, top 10 kittens, top ten cats in
premiership. A list of all the Regional winners (there are 7 U.S.
regions), and the lists of top 100 cats, kittens, and premiership -
points included. Usually there are several special interest articles,
CFA board meeting minute (yawn), and many pictures/ads placed by
foreign breeders. It's a really fun book!
