| 408.1 | Take that ball off there and put it in the caboosee | NEBVAX::BELFORTE | The train is on time, HA! | Mon Dec 01 1986 10:33 | 14 |
| | We had one, one year, who ate all the strung popcorn and then started
    on the twinkle lights.

Every year we decorate the tree and the cats redecorate it! Can't
win! Why not just let them decorate it as they see fit, and call
    it good.

The best Christmas was a couple of years ago, my son got a train
set, and while "Santa" was setting it up the Great Train Wreckers
were at work knocking it off the track, or just lying in front of
the engine so that it couldn't go (makes for wonderful times tryng
to get the track to lay flat)

| | It's been quite a few years since we've had that dreaded combination
of x-mas tree and kitten. But this year we made the mistake of
purchasing kitty right before the holidays.

A few years ago I purchased about 6 dozen gold bells that TIE on
the tree, and my husband and I made bows out of holiday ribbon bought
at the craft store. We decided that an old fashioned tree decorated
with ribbons and bells and popcorn and cranberries was more likely
    to survive our brood.

The bells are great fun. The cats love to bat at them and we always
know when one of the cats is at it with the tree. So far no casualties
in the cat department or the decoration department. It should be
interesting this year with the new kitten. She is a climber and
I'm sure I'll be entering notes on how to prevent her from scaling
    the tree.

Another thing that is sort of working for Residual is to give
him something to bat around to keep him occupied.

I gave him a little stuffed Santa and it's already in peices.

|  |     Howdy;

i am new to this file.... i don't own a cat at this time although
i have had them for most of my life... still love the little buggers..

i wanted to just give a word of caution... when decorating your
x-mas tree.... watch out for the tinsel... as most kitties love
it it can very dangerous... they can swallow it and not digest it,
sometimes they may need major surgery... this is true for any type
of string... so PLEASE be careful...

looking forward to reading kitty stories :)

| 408.5 | this MUST be for me!!! | DONJON::KBLUBAUGH |  | Thu Dec 11 1986 14:49 | 23 |
| | Speaking of Christmas.....I came home from shopping last night to
find that my roommates had wrapped a couple presents for their
grandkids and had put the presents in an open box. That was their
first mistake...I've learned that cats and boxes go very well together.

Well, what must have happened was, my oldest cat (Underfoot) had
jumped into the box and landed right on the soft sweater that wasn't
put in a box before wrapping. She had put her paw right through
the paper. Then she must have thought that this was HER gift because
she had torn off 90% of the paper and shredded it into tiny little
pieces all over this box. I can just see her lying there in the
box, on this soft sweater, purring loudly, and having the best time
of her life "opening" the gift.

I left a note for my roommates (they work 2nd shift at Raytheon)
and apologized on behalf on my cat for "getting into the Christmas
spirit". I don't think they were too pleased with having to re-wrap
the sweater, because they left me a rather "frosty" note this morning.

Oh well, some people enjoy the holidays and some people don't!

    regards,
    Kelley

Well my cat has seemed to mellow out with the tree this year.
As a matter of fact he likes to sleep under the tree leaning against the
presents. It makes quite a sight.

| | Well, I put up my tree this year and was sorely disappointed!!!
My 3 devilish kittens absolutely ignored it!!! And you should
see the amount of ornaments I put on the bottom for them to play
    with!!!

Little Fi has enjoyed sitting under it and looking up at the lights
    though!!

| | Well, Jou Jou hasn't let us down as far as the tree goes. We hear
the little bells jingling all day and all night. We have to shut
her out of the living room at night so that we can get some sleep.
It is hysterical to see her standing on her hind legs like a gopher
looking up a the tree. She has never been outside or seen a tree
before. I wonder what she is thinking.

Well, I found out why Residual lays next to the tree all the time...

...it's because there is a heat register right there. He lays there
to keep warm... among other things.
