| | I've seen pictures of Snowshoes. They are BEAUTIFUL cats.
    We've always said that we'd like to find one someday.

    	Too bad we've got 6 cats and are trying to find homes for the
    4 abandoned kittens we just bottle-raised or we'd take you up on
    it.

    	This is just a word of encouragement to anyone who is interested
    in it. These are beautiful cats. I not heard a single bad thing
    about their disposition or health and I've heard plenty good.

| 369.2 | He needs a family | BLITZN::BITTROLFF | Debbie Bittrolff | Thu Oct 30 1986 14:44 | 15 |
| | This little guy is still available. I want to find him a good
    home that is why I'm trying here first. A little more information
    on him: He is a blue point. Probably not a show kitten as
    he doesn't have as slender a body as the show siamese I have seen.
    But is very pleasing to the eye. He has beautiful blue eyes.
    He's extremely affectionate and gets along well with all my other
    cats. I'd love to keep him but already have my 13 persians with
    no room for a "pet". The price is very reasonable and shipping
    for instance from here to New Jersey is about $55. These are
    still a rare breed, I was told there are only 8 here in Colorado.
    This breed is not recognized by CFA yet and this is the first one
    I have ever seen. Has anyone else seen one, maybe at a CFF show?

| 369.3 | He's adorable! | LAIDBK::SHERRICK | Molly :^) | Thu Oct 30 1986 19:32 | 11 |
| | I want to add my plug for this dear fellow. I had the pleasure
    of meeting him last week, and he is really a sweetie! I think he
    is somewhat larger that current show siamese, he also doesn't have
    the extreme wedge shaped head. He is very pretty, and as some
    snowshoes do, he has a white blaze on his blue point nose! It's
    just adorable! His little white feet make him look likw he's got
    slippers on. I think he looks mostly like a short haired birman,
    with a nose blaze. He does talk, but doesn't have a deep siamese
    type voice, and mostly just talks with you, not a constant 'yowing'.

    He has a super personality, and LOVES to 'make bread' and give hugs!

| | 'Making bread,' huh? Never knew there was a name for it!

    One of my cats give terrific back or belly massages, but she spends
    far too much time massaging pillows and quilts instead of people...
    She did it from the time we got her, but her sister very rarely
    does it. I don't know quite if it means as much to the cat as it
    does to me to get my massage, but she certainly purrrrs away while
    kneading.

| 369.5 | I think the heavier body type is OK. | NINJA::HEFFEL | Tracey Heffelfinger | Fri Oct 31 1986 07:59 | 16 |
| | About the body type...

    	I know they are derivitive of the Siamese breed but I think
    they have what is referred to as a "modified oriental" body type.
    This means that they will be a little heavy and "apple cheeked".
    So who knows? It may be show quality.

    	I'll try to remember to look it up the standards information
    on the Snowshoe tonight.

    	(I'm not a breeder of any kind of expert. I just read a lot
    about cats and this was a breed that interested me very much so
    I paid a little bit more attention to the standards on it.)

| 369.6 | I don't know if they know what show quality is! | DONJON::SCHREINER | Pussycat, on the prowl... | Fri Oct 31 1986 08:48 | 24 |
| | I have seen several Snowshoes shown in CFF when I went to shows
    in Ohio. Jimmy Hoffman (i think) is the "ringleader" of the Snowshoe
    club which is based out of Ohio. I haven't seen many of them, and
    from what I saw and heard, the breed really hasn't been perfected
    yet. There was a woman who was showing one locally during the 84-85
    show season. She really didn't do much with it. I think she
    eventually gave up showing it. They did seem to be larger than
    the typical show quality siamese, with a much less extreme face.
    Almost looked more like a small "american sh" deriviation, rather
    than Siamese.

    I don't think that there has been a Snowshoe Grand in CFF yet.
    In fact, I remember at one show I went to, the snowshoe people had
    a statue of what they were trying to produce, and not one of the
    cats looked anywhere near what the statue looked like.

    Would be an interesting challenge though, working with such a rare
    and new breed.

    If anyone wants more info about the Showshoe breed club, let me
    know, I have some friends in Ohio that I could call.

| 369.7 | The Legacy of Emmerson, the unrecognized Snowshoe | PUZZLE::CORDESJA |  | Fri Nov 07 1986 12:54 | 28 |
| | My husband and I had a mixed breed cat that resembled a snowshoe.
    He was the result of a chance mating of an apple headed siamese
    and a black shorthair that had the white spotting gene. He was
    a sealpoint with a white blaze on his nose, brilliant violet blue
    eyes, and of course, white paws. He also had the cooat of the
    balinese, slightly longer, with a plumed tail.

    We adopted this cat from a young girl I worked with whose father
    would not allow her to keep the mother or the kittens any longer.
    He was only three and a half weeks old. We took him in because
    he was so adorable (even though my husband thought the blaze on
    his nose made him look asymmetrical).

    We dubbed him Ralph Waldo Emmerson, and called him Emmie for short.
    He was one of the most intelligent cats we have ever had and we
    loved him dearly. He succumbed to Feline Leukemia at the tender
    age of two and a half years.

    It was the influence of this beautiful cat that helped me to decide
    to breed Birmans. At that time, the breed Snowshoe was not around.

    It is only a matter of time before the Snowshoe will be a recognized
    breed in all associations. I hope your cat finds a good and loving
    home.

Since all my cats are from the local shelter, I don't know what "reasonable"
prices are for purebred cats. What sort of range are we talking here -
$50 (ha,ha - wishful thinking, I'm sure!), $100, $200, $500, $1000 (gasp!)??
I doubt that I could talk my husband into another cat, but I love Siamese,
and your little guy sounds charming. Is he still available?

| 369.9 | A home has been found | BLITZN::BITTROLFF | Debbie Bittrolff | Mon Nov 10 1986 14:31 | 8 |
| | I am pleased to announce that the Snowshoe has found a new home.
    He will be living with a "notes" family in New Hampshire and will
    be flying out there this week.

    Thanks to everyone for their notes and interest.

| 369.10 | Announcing a new arrival | RT101::K_SULLIVAN |  | Thu Nov 13 1986 08:58 | 13 |
| | My wife and I are the proud new owners of "Boots", the Snowshoe
    referred to in .0.
    He arrived in Manchester, NH yesterday after a long flight from
    Colorado. To prove his intelligence he got an earlier flight
    out of Chicago than we had expected, and he reduced his travel
    time from Colorado to New Hampshire by four and a half hours.
    His arrival in New Hampshire drew quite a few admirers from the
    people waiting at the airline terminal.
    It didn't take him any time at all to adjust to his new home, and
    both my wife and I are very grateful to Debbie for all of her
    trouble.
