5396.0. "UCX$BIND looping..." by BACHUS::VANLOOCK (Patrick DTN 856-8648) Tue Apr 01 1997 11:05
   Hi,

   Problems with looping UCX$BIND ...

   ==> occured on primary server: 1x on 11-Mar,
                                  2x on 01-Apr,
               on secondary server: 1x on 01-Apr

   Primary: VMS Alpha 6.2 running UCX 4.1 ECO 4
   Secondary: VMS VAX 6.2 running UCX 4.1 ECO 4
   ==> all bind-related files: V4.1-12  16/23-jul-96
   (do not belong to same cluster)

   ECO 4 has been installed on 10-Feb-97,
   before 10-Feb-97: UCX 4.1 ECO 2
   before 30-Dec-96: UCX 4.0 ECO ??

   Bind had been configured on both systems about a year ago,
   serving only one domain, no other servers configured in this domain,
   configuration files have not been modified since Nov 96...
   Bind has been running fine until 11-Mar...
   nothing special in ucx$bind_startup.log

   What could be the reason for UCX$BIND misbehaviour now??

   Regards,

   Patrick

| 5396.1 | bad database? | YAKKA::KINGSMILL | Geoff Kingsmill, Australia | Wed Apr 02 1997 21:12 | 7 |
|  | Patrick,
       I've also seen this. I isolated the problem to an invalid entry in the
bind database (sys$specific:[ucx$bind]). I would check your bind database
files thoroughly to ensure that all entries including the root definitions
are correct.

| 5396.2 | I'll check the DB's | BACHUS::VANLOOCK | Patrick DTN 856-8648 | Thu Apr 03 1997 00:21 | 8 |
|  |     Geoff,

    Thanks for your input: I will check the DB-files ... but as those
    files haven't been changed since 25-Nov-96 (=revised date),
    I supposed that this could NOT be the cause of the looping UCX$BIND.
    Anyway, I will check it out!

    Patrick
