The requirements refer to what version of Rdb is needed on the machine
where the Replication Option is installed. Usually the version of a
    remote Rdb site doesn't matter.

In the case of REPLICATION transfers, the Replication Option must be
installed and run on the same machine or cluster as the source Rdb
    database.

Taking these two things into account, the Replication Option version
needed to REPLICATE from a 4.2 Rdb source is VDD 2.4. If the customer
already has VDD 2.4, s/he should be able to replciate data to a remote
Rdb 7.1 database. At least I'm unaware of any problems, though I've
never tried it with that combination of products.

Note, however, that VDD 2.4 is no longer orderable nor is it supported
in case something should go wrong. The minimum supported version of
the Replication Option, today, is 6.0-11. If the customer were to
install ROR 7.0, it would need either Rdb 6.1 or 7.0 on the same system
or cluster. If the source database is to be REPLICATED, then the
source has to also be at Rdb 6.1 or 7.0 and located on the same system
or cluster as ROR is installed. Sources which are used in EXTRACTION
transfers can be local or remote, and there's no requirement on the Rdb
version. Target databases can be local or remote and there's no
    requirement on the Rdb version.
