      I go through a "throw the junk out" period every spring, and will
     again this year.  I recommend it to all.  Own fewer things !
    
      While I wouldn't do .0, I appreciate the sentiment.  Tell me - do
     you REALLY plan to use what's in your closets, cellar, attic, shed ?

    barn and every day when you arrive you grab desk(s) and chair(s) and

Yep, I "throw the junk out" every once in a while. Usually I start looking
for some item, can't find it, so I start filling a trash bag until it's
found. If you haven't used it in a year or more, you never will. I need to do
a major cellar cleaning.

BTW, shoot your TV. It's amazing how much free time you suddenly have.
Actually, we do rent a movie once in a while... no cable, no antenna.

    TV was not allowed in my house when I was growing up.  My parents
    encouraged us to read, write, draw, build elaborate forts in the living
    room with sheets and blankets, etc.
    
    I think it's a plus for all households!

    I think moving my bed back and forth wouldn't work too well...I have a

    Personally, I try to keep my cache of "stuff" to a minimum.  I don't
    buy trinkets or decoration (something else to pack up when I
    move) or extra stuff that I personally would not use often.  Of course,
    many people would say I own a ridiculous amount of audio-video
    equipment, but fact is, I use all of it often...that just *maybe* I
    should use some of the money I spend on stereo stuff to buy a picture
    or end-table.  To them I say....NAY! 
    
    Once I buy a house of my very own, I might break down and buy a painting
    or two, but until then, I still have another amplifier and a couple of
    sub-woofers to purchase to complete my home entertainment system.  I
    may even buy an extra chair and a coffee table once I'm in a
    'permanent' location, and it is safe to have a few extra large items
    (since I won't be moving anytime soon).   
    
    Until then, I've always been the type of person to buy a few quality 
    items that I will use frequently, than a 'fill the house up
    with furnature and trinkets' type.
    
    [yes, I'm a 'bare walls', single type male..but I gots a nice new 31"
    Mitsubishi tv to look at, so who needs pictures anyway  8^) ]

    I don't have paintings.  I have some prints.  Last time my mom was up,
    she dragged me to a frame store.  So now I have a bunch of framed
    prints.  The majority are hanging in the back bedroom, where I hardly
    ever venture.  They look really good, though....
    
    What I have done is put up a towel rack in the living room and draped
    the afghans over it.

     re .22   Well the refrigerator has been plugged into the back
              room as I examine how to best use "traditional space."
    
              I really don't see why a "living room" should have 
              traditional furniture, because static furniture robs
              space potential.
    
              I also don't see why a "bedroom" should be so named, as
              that space can also be used more flexibly.
    
              Doug I've enjoyed your knowledgeable notes on topics like
              NAFTA.
    
    
              As for current conditions, the refridgerator is plugged in
              the COR (Check Out room).  Meats, frozen vegs, Milk, etc.
    
              All light bulbs have been put back in room sockets.
    
              All Mirrors remain on walls (bathroom, bedroom).
    
              Small items like push pins, paper clips, etc are often
              not logged in/out. They are however returned to the COR.
    
              The car keys and wallet are sometimes placed on the kitchen
              counter ("convenience"), sometimes in a small box in the COR.
              I think the current mess in the COR has something to do 
              with that.
    
              Toiletry items such as razor, shaving cream, toothbrush and
              paste are usually logged out as "toiletries."  Also things
              like soap and shampoo.  I don't have a problem with that, so
              long as everything returns where it came from.
    
              Curtains are a curious problem.  I put them in the bedroom
              at night since the sun pours thru that window in morning.
              I still don't leave them there though.
    
              The TV has been put on a dolly, the stereo on a plywood-
              type plank with dolly beneath.  I'm considering tying a rope
              chain or chord to pull the things.
    
              Closet space is starting to be looked at.  Eventually all
              manner of items get stuffed into them as we know.  I'm
              trying to envision how that space might be filled
              "differently."
    
              The idea of COR shelving is being seriously considered-
              in light of all the stuff in there.  How that might interfere
              with the space requirements of the "large" items is unclear.
    
              Shelves on all 4 walls would cut about 3.5 to 4 feet of
              space out of the room.  perhaps the advantages would outweigh
              that.
    
              The shower curtain remains in the bathroom just because ...

    If the act of sweeping your living space clean is to unfetter yourself
    from daily clutter thus freeing you pursue more cerebral interests, how
    much more time does it take you to checki/out the things you don't seem
    to be able to do without anyway?

      In the spirit of .0, my family has moved everything out of our kitchen:
                refrigerator -> living room
                oven -> dining room
                kitchen table -> family room
                all cabinet stuff -> bedrooms, dining room  
    
      We now feel mentally stimulated trying to remember where everything is 
    and walking into the living room for some orange juice is a thrilling 
    experience.

      The real reason for this migration of possesions is we are having our
    kitchen floor redone.

    What's all the fuss?  Doesn't everybody live like that?  I admit, it's
    a real pain to teach the dogs to sign their chew toys back in, so I

     The space cleaning is done not so much to rid myself from daily
    clutter (though things are being tossed out) but to have more room
    (freedom of movement) available so that I can design my living space
    needs however I wish on any given day or hour.
    
     If I want an artist easal, two chairs, a table with a fruit bowl one
    day, I may want something else the next day.
    
     It comes down to freedom of expression.  I can't easily do all that
    I want to do in my living space when surrounded by bulky awkward pieces
    of furniture all over.  
    
     They get in the way for aerobics, bench press, bb gun practice, art
    work, markerboards, etc.
    
     Who on earth needs a center table?  Biggest space waste of all!

    
     Rather like having your cellar of USEFUL items in a back room.
     You're USING things WHEN you need them.
    
     And when you're not you're not.

    When you *replace* your old drugs with new, is it a new line item, or
    do you fudge it as "checked back in?"
    
    I'da thot this would work better as a double entry sort of a thing.

    power, anti-war peace movement, environmental consciousness, Womens
    liberation, less-stuffy clothing, sexual revolution, civil rights
    movement, anti-establishment sentiment, etc.
    
    In short, traditional ideas and institutions were challenged - and
    sometimes changed.
    
    So what's "weird" with creating a home where a living room, den,
    bedroom, etc., challenge "tradition" and take on new form and

The only use I can see for it is to decide what to throw away because you

     Well, all good things must come to an end.  I wanted to explore
    the idea of using one's living space as one wished.  I was going
    to design 3-4 room scenarios which would have been fun.
    
     The ending would have involved creating the apartment into a romantic
    place:  Candle sconces on every wall, a Japanese footwash, a love seat,
    massage table, French dinner under candles, Armani suits, Florsheim
    shoes, cuff links, cologne, and all the things which make for romance.
    
     It would have concluded with pairs of tickets to New York shows,
    calling the limo, and flying out.
    
     When I was young, I dreamed that adults had it all and lived as they
    pleased.  I wanted to experiment that idea with one's own home.
    
     I believe that an idea should be explored and brought to fruition.
    How else can one think of what might be.  Perhaps a viewer would 
    re-think a spare room, and how to use it.
    
    Alas I do not live this way.  I hope my cessation of the note is
    understood.  It does not reflect on anyone here.
