    (oooo, cool alliteration)

It seems to me that the Grammies are always a joke...

I can't say whether or not the nominations were dreck because I have no
idea who was nominated and for what.

Little time to watch tv/read newspaper right now.

Yup, these award shows have never done anything for me. I've watched
them a time or two and thus found out that there's nothing there for
    me.

Total piffle...but I still can't believe that Crash Test Dummies
    got nominated for *anything*.

| | VCRs and award shows were made for each other. I can zip through
commercials, acceptance speeches, and any live performances that give
    me fits.

if i did that, i'd just fast-forward the whole blinkin' tape. award
shows are the pits; they're the media's way of patting its own back.
so i save the trouble, i don't even tape em.

the live-performance crew doesn't usually include the likes of thomas

| | How could anyone, other than the performers, actually care who wins any
award in any category? If I remember right last year Whitney Houston
cleaned up with "I Will Always Love You". So much for the value of that
award. I hated that song from the first time I heard it. I could not
stand my fillings ringing and my sinuses clearing while Whitney was
screeching that song. If that was the best the rest must have been real
crap. I am afraid to watch it as I just know Boys to Men will be on the
show somewhere which will give me anxiety attacks and want to jump up
and put my foot through the screen while wishing I was putting the same
foot in their collective teeth. Willie will NEVER cut an album with
these crackly voiced punks. What's next? The Obies, the Oscars, the
People's Choice, etc. etc. Spare yourselves the tension of who is
going to win and turn to A&E or Discovery and learn something instead.

| | I tape the Grammies because "depending" on who is nominated (like EC)
there can be some excellent LIVE performances!! If you haven't
listened to From The Cradle don't knock Clapton for his nomination,
    however I hadn't heard he'd been nominated in 5 categories.....hope
you're right :-) I don't know if every artist nominated performs
live, but I know Clapton did the year he cleaned up for Tears From
    Heaven.

Let's face it, age, taste in music will account for most of our
disagreements; but that's the way it is :-)

I guess I'm getting old (actually I KNOW I am), but some of the
performances are really getting tasteless....The Red Hot Chili
Peppers come to mind. I don't pretend to understand their music
(if it can be called that), but 2 or 3 years ago their lead singer
wore some sort of outrageous costume on the show and I feared the
world was going to be "treated" to viewing his penis before the
    song was completed; utter trash!!

I don't believe the Grammies are awarded based on total sales as
much as the Billboard awards, but I do think sales is a factor that
enters into the nominating process. <--- For this reason I can accept
seeing people/groups nominated that I would never listen to personally.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear of Clapton's nomination; I love the
CD but it has gotten no commercial air play at all. Even here in the
south there aren't any PURE BLUES FM stations; however the CD went
platinum the day it was released, this combined with EC's reputation
and skill and the fact that this latest release is a winner (just
ask Burati) makes his nomination understandable.
