We're probably going to spend $10,000 on the wedding as well. It
sounds like -1 is doing a great job at keeping hers to a minimum!

However, there's other things I've included in our budget, which she
may or may not be having or can get for free:

o clergy (ours is $100; since we're exchanging our vows in a garden,
             no cost for a church/organist/etc)

    o invitations

o favors for your guests (we haven't thought much about this and
             may not even have any)

    o gifts to your attendants/parents/grandparents/etc

o your dress! Which also includes the slip/veil, shoes, etc.
(my wonderful mother is buying this for me!)

o tux rental for your husband-to-be

    o wedding rings (we're having a double-ring ceremony)

o caterer - does that price include taxes? gratuity? liquor? beer?
wine? are they charging you anything to cut the cake; is
             this included?

o photos - does this include tax? Our photographer will cost us a
minimum of $1500, but we're budgeting in extra for those
reprints/enlargements we just know we're going to want!

o hall - does this include tax?

    o flower girls/ring bearers - actually, this is a question! Who's
responsible for purchasing the baskets and/or pillows?
             We're assuming we are.

    o transporation - are you renting a limo? (we're not, we'll probably
use his '72 Chevy as an escape vehicle...or maybe our
motorcycles!) The setting for our ceremony/reception would
be perfect for a horse and carriage....(maybe I'll call just
             for prices!)

o we're splitting our "entertainment" into two -- since we're doing
this outside, we'd like live music for the ceremony (ie,
harp, violins). Then, later we'll have a DJ spin some tunes
for a few hours. We're still mulling this over.

Not included in this is the honeymoon (still working on that!) and
a place to stay our first night (we're thinking of a B&B, then fly
out the next day to wherever).

| | Reply to .7
$495. for you photos sounds very low. I would guess she is using
35mm, so to get 400 prints you would need about 12 rolls of 36 exp.
    12 x $4.15 per roll = $49.80
    12 x $7.00 film processing = $84.00 ( Note, this is a low mail order
                                           price. My processor charges
                                           $12.00 / roll )
    24 8 x 10 x $5.99 each = $143.76 Maybe lower if mail order
    48 5 x 7 x $2.99 each = $143.52 " " "
This adds up to $421.08 .
Is she a friend and doing this as wedding gift ? If not, I would
check into this a little closer. Get the details of what you will
get. Also if the film/proc is mail order, look at some other 8 x 10
prints that were printed by the mail order company.
It's better to check now, then to be sad later.

| | reply to .8 hi Bob,
No she is not a friend doing us a favor, Debbie Sargent has a small
studio in Westboylston. yes she uses 35mm, and no the film is not sent
out to be developed. She has a 1hr photo processor at her studio. NOW
just hold on a sec I can hear you all groaning!!! 8)
I have looked at quite a few of her books and believe it or not the 1hr
processor has come a LOOOOng way in the last few years. the quality in
comparable(sp) to other "big" studios charging twice as much!! also her
blow ups, the 8x10's, are only $3.99 each (that is if you don't pay the
full $495.00 up front) I have talked to quite a few people who have had
her do their pics and they have really liked her and her shots.
She aint bad at all check her out her studio is Prism color labs
(I think I spelled it right?)

Sorry if it sounded like I was putting down the 1hr labs. I was not.
The price she gave you just sounded low. Now that I know she owns the
lab and may do her own printing, I can see where her supplies cost
would be much lower and can do wedding at that price.

| 643.11 | You're doing great! | POWDML::SULLIVAN |  | Wed Feb 05 1997 17:55 | 35 |
| | You guys are all doing great with the budgets.

Where do you get a wedding gown for $200 that includes alterations (oh,
and that includes the shoes and vail.)? I tried to find clearance gowns,
    but if your not a small size (which I'm not - dress size 12 - 14), I
found it impossible to find clearance gowns (old samples etc.). I know
that you can save a lot of money by making the vail yourself (or
finding someone crafty enough to help you out.). Vails in the stores
can sometimes go for over $200 alone, but only cost $20 - $30 bucks to
    make.

When planning my wedding (which took place last May), I was surprized
at the cost of the rings and flowers. If you're only going to spend a
couple of hundred bucks, you have to go with very plain, 14K gold
bands. If you do anything fancy, I found that the price goes way up.
My husband's band cost over $500. It's beautiful, but expensive. My
band has diamonds in it, so it was well over $1,000. I was ready to
settle for a plain gold band, but he wanted me to have the fancy one.

Flowers were very expensive in total, but when I broke things down,
each arrangement was reasonable. If you want a centerpiece on each
table, you have to figure at least $20 per table times say 10 tables.
That's $200 before you even have your bouquet. Then the little things
add up, like the mother's coursages and the boutinnaires (sp). Forget
any kind of decorations for the church if you're on a tight budget,
    unless you make them yourself.

There's an excellent book out on the subject of budgets and weddings.
It's called Bridal Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields. I recommend it.
It helped me out trying to save some money. It was very helpful in
    choosing a photographer.

    Good luck,

    Katie

They have a web site. If I remember to bring the book in, I'll post

| 643.13 | JC Penney | TARKIN::VAILLANCOURT |  | Thu Feb 06 1997 10:33 | 21 |
| | re .11, where to find a wedding gown for $200 -

I'm not a small size either (20). I got my dress (regular $200)
and shoes (regular $30) from the JC Penney catalog. I had a 20% off
mall coupon I was able to use for them both. I got the dress altered
and shortened (cut off the alternating hemline, made it tea-length, took
in the waist) at Irene's Stitch-It in Maynard for $30 (ready in just 2
weeks). I already have a slip that's the right length. I looked
around at a couple of the 'outlet' stores, and the cheapest dress I
could find in my size was $400, and they needed cleaning, repairs, etc.

I am not wearing a veil, just a sprig of flowers on a comb. But we did
make my veil for my first wedding, got all the supplies at a sewing
shop for small money (it's been too long, I don't remember!).

As for flowers, all we need is my bouquet (small), corsage for 3
mothers (one step-), boutineer for groom, 3 fathers (one step-) and my
son, and a small cut flower arrangement on each of the 10 tables.
Not having attendants or a large bouquet saved a LOT, as well as not
having extra arragements for the wedding site.
