| | Amusement Business magazine just reported that the Lallopaloosa 1992
tour grossed over $20 million dollars in just 2 months!! Co-Organizer
Perry Ferrell says that next year's tour will move from
Ampitheatre-style halls to "field" (stadium) places (eg -- without
assigned seating!!) I guess he wants to enhance and expand upon the
"free will/community" chemestry that sparked up at a few of the dates
in the US (like in Mansfield, where they had several bon fires on the
field with naked people dancing around them in quasi ritual!).

Also look for the 1993 "Lollapalooza" tour to start earlier in the
year. Next years tour will run from mid-June thru early August,
avoiding students final exams and "back to school" (Perry knows who and
what his market is!), which he felt the 1992 tour provided some
conflicts in those areas. He promises next years tour to be bigger and
    better than the former two!!

They won't be coming to Great Woods, that's for sure.

Actually, they will be invited back to Great Woods (despite the comments
right after the show to the contrary). There was a letter in last week's
Billboard from the general manager of GW, saying that they *would* welcome
Lollapalooza back to GW in the future....

| | Yeah, Great Woods has to put up the front of condemning the seemingly wild
behavior right after the shows, but bottom line was very little damage was
done. They had $2000 damage and had it repaired the next day.

| | But the thing is the organizers are looking far beyond the capacity
of GW -- look for L III at Foxboro or the like.

From notes about this in Radio_Radio, they apparently had several
orders of magnatude more damage when the first Lallapalooza tour played
    there.

| 876.7 | Lollapalooza -- The record setting tour | CAVLRY::BUCK | Vote for Hillary's huzband! | Fri Oct 02 1992 13:42 | 15 |
| | More info on Lallapalooza 92 -- The tour set a lot of records ... one
being on the final weekend of dates in CA, where the tour grossed a
record one day total on food sales. Average attendee spent $11.50 on
consessions (this is the hall consessions ... the tour also had
consesssions as part of the tour, and the gross figure is sans the
private food sales)!! That's far more than ever previsouly recorded
in history (I think the last record was something like $9.90/person).

Seeing this as a viable market niche, Lallapalooza 93 will try and
incorporate a more diverse array of ethnic foods for concert goers.

Personal Comments -- Is this going to become the "awareness" event of
    the decade or what?!

| 876.8 | Lolla '93 | GOES11::G_HOUSE | It's NOT a TOOMAH! | Thu Mar 18 1993 12:34 | 19 |
| | I heard some info on the radio this morning about the next Lollapalooza
concert. They're apparently having trouble trying to find a headliner
band. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and the Velvet Underground were apparently
among the bands considered. Pearl Jam turned 'em down, Nirvana
wouldn't commit 'cause they'll be in the middle of recording their next
album, and Lou Reed wouldn't commit 'cause he didn't feel the band
hadn't been back together long enough to make that kind of commitment.

They're apparently considering rotating the acts, so that each show
    will be different.

Bands confirmed to play so far (for at least some of the shows) are
Primus, Arrested Development, Neil Young, Alice in Chains, and Belly.

The DJ said she'd actually spoken with someone at Interscope who would
know, so this information should be pretty good (but may change, since
it's a long time until the actual shows.

| | Here's this year's official Lollapalooza lineup:
    	Primus
    	Alice in Chains
    	Dinosaur Jr.
    	Fishbone
    	Arrested Development
    	Front 242
Babes in Toyland (before July 15) or Tool (after July 15)
    	Rage Against the Machine

    On the Lollapalooza secondary stage:
    	Unrest
    	Tsunami
    	Sebadoh
    	Mutabaruka
    	Mosquito
    	Mercury Rev
    	Cell
    	A Lighter Shade of Brown
    	Local acts

Also at Lollapalooza: The Village, a "sideshow of poets, freaks,
    	artists and assorted wild-eyed types"

Great Woods confirms that Lollapalooza will not be there this year
(surprised??), but	a Lollapalooza publicist says that the show will
probably go to either Providence or Portland (or both) in mid-July.

Quonset State Airport in Quonset, RI on July 17. You can get tickets
at Ticketmaster outlets or by calling Ticketmaster (or your favorite
    scalping agent).
