848.0. "Lucifer's Friend" by METALX::SWANSON (Fools smile as they kill) Thu Jun 04 1992 15:33
Has anyone heard of the band Lucifer's Friend? Someone just introduced
me to them today, and I'm listening to them right now a-la-RRD42 &
    headphones. Very good stuff!

The first Album's called Lucifer's Friend, and came out in 1970. I
haven't heard all the songs yet, but so far it sounds exactly like a
cross between Deep Purple and The Scorpions.

The members are from Germany. The singer John Lawton was formerly from
a British band called Stonewall. In '76 he left and joined Uriah Heep
according to the liner notes. There were other personell changes, but
I won't bother typing them all in... no names I recognize.

They toured with Manfred Mann, Van Halen, and the Scorpions at
    different times...

    Vocals: John Lawton
    Guitar: Peter Hesslein
    Drums: Joachim Rietenbach
    Bass: Dieter Horns
    Organ: Peter Hecht

| | I'll look also for Lucifer's Friend as I've heard good things about.
John Lawton (he's american I think) was an excellent singer. I've seen him
live with Uriah Heep in 1977 and he was (vocally) very impressing.

sounds influenced by Deep Purple...also the vocals remind me of
scorpions....at some points I also thought I heard a bit of "YeS"
    influence. Definitly good stuff!
