    A heavy metal violinist?
         Sound stupid but electric violin virtuoso MARK WOOD makes it work,
    and his album VooDoo Violince is proof.
     There are NO guitars on the album.

There is an electric violin solo on Rush's Signals(?) album.  Pretty neat.

ELO used em.  Though I wouldn't consider them heavy metal.

Not sure I'd want to hear someone squeaking through a bank of Marshalls though...
