| | Just as a point of interest - the only clubs I know of that have HM
on a regular basis are Narcissus (Wed. nights), Bunratty's (Thurs.
nights) and the Channel (sporadic live acts). Most Boston clubs tend
to steer far clear of HM bands.

P.S. Between the 3, I would choose Bunratty's easily!

Well, it may be the worst to *play* at, because the stage is small,
and the dressign room is this tiny closet upstairs, etc. But as
a customer, this is the place I like the best.
Why? I dunno - it's just the place I feel most comfortable at. It's sort
of a dive, and I like them the best. The Channel is too big for my
tastes - when it's crowded, it is *packed*. And Narcissuss still
looks like a disco to me.
I guess surroundings have a lot to do with whether I like a club
or not - Bunratty's just has that funky, rock-and-roll feel to it!

    But whatever, please, get a conference quickly!  (^;

Bunratty's is in 'beautiful' downtown Allston. It's on Harvard Ave.
off of Commonwealth Ave - maybe about a 1/2 mile past the Paradise
(so about a mile and a half from Kenmore Square).
Unfortunately, they do not allow underage rockers to attend these
nights (or any nights).

There are quicker ways, but they are a lot more difficult. This is the
easiest/best way to go. One addition - when taking the Kenmore Square
exit, make sure you bear to the right after taking the left hand exit
off of Storrow Drive. Then take a right at the first set of lights.
Kenmore Square is right in front of you.

Emporium. It's about the best all-metal bar I've ever been too.
It's a private club, which in SC means it can be open on Sunday,
and it goes til' 5 in the morning. It's also a member only type
    place.

Bands interested in playing there have to have their ducks in a
row, cuz your need 2200 watt's (minimum) to gig. It's cool, cuz
they allow pyro-technics', and all that good stuff...

I just called Decandence for directions for tonight.
Take route 93 north, Off of 93 you want to take the exit for
293 north , 101 West (He didn't say how far up 93 it is), Then
you want to look for and take exit #2 Brown Ave. Off the
exit ramp take a right follow that about 2 miles to a stop sign.
At the stop sign take a right onto Baker Street about 100 yards
there will be a yeild sign take a righ onto Elm Street. Decadence
is 1/2 mile on the left just before Dunkin Donuts.
Doors open at 8 first band goes on at 8:45. Ferenheit should
hit the stage about 11 and cover is $6.00.

It used to be all rock bands but the owner (tutu) is trying to make
it respectable (like this slob would know WTF that means). But last
time i was there it was a kinda rock band, i'd suggest calling or
something to find out who's playing. they list it in like beat magazine

If you live in Raymond (by the way I just went camping there and
got lost so this is how I know) Dover isn't too far. It's about
15 minutes from Portsmouth. During the week they have live bands
and I've seen a couple of good heavy metal ones but Fri. and Sat.
nights are mostly top 40 so you might hear "Push it" at mega
    decibels on the weekends.

I haven't been there for a couple of months. Friday night a good
HM band is playing at the Con Tiki (?) in Salsbury. That's not

    My favorite clubs are:

    The Channel
    The Living Room
    Narcissus
    The Paradise

The Channel has great bands but, if your not of age forget about
drinking and they tend to have a lot of 21+ shows. Not to mention that
they will stuff as many people humanly possible in that place to make a
buck. But, have seen and met some great bands there.

The Living Room RULES!!! Wicked easy to drink if your under 21. They
ALWAYS have 18+ shows. Cops and security at a minimum. (I think
that's cool). Also seen MANY cool bands there. Plus, they tend to
have Holiday shows like (christmas night, thanksgiving night, new years
etc. which gives yah something to do).

Narcissus - You can always see basically wherever you are. The only
cool night to go is Wed. unless you wanna boogie. They have a lot of
LOCAL bands and minimum cross country bands. Also, if you are under 21
and don't have a perfect scam like myself YOU will NOWAY be able to
drink endless security and cops everywhere. Trust me I KNOW I've been
thrown out of there 3 times. They won't think twice of booting yah.

The Paradise - Cool, small, but easy to drink and you can see pretty
good wherever you are. Only been there once but, I'd recommend it.

Derringer's - (Brockton) - Expensive but, I just saw a cool show there.
They've got the cage set up just like the Channel and it's pretty much
impossible to get served there either if your a minor like myself.

If you live in the Marlboro area, All these places take about 45min- to
    an hour to get to.

I still hear them sponsoring WHJY's Souncheck, etc. but I don't

They will have themselves a bit of club competition if and when

Not far from the original Living Room but that's going back

into which you have to push the glass and the frame serves as the
handle! El neeto, but the beer inhales! Best beer in Belgium is Duvel

       .....back on track.....

After seeing some of the info on clubs in other cities I'm
starting to think Syracuse isn't half bad for its size. I'll
admit that I'll bitch that things could be better from time to time
but all in all there's quite a bit going down in H_M and H_R (Hard
    Rock) here in town.
A majority of the H_M action is at one club, the Lost Horizon.
There are other clubs but they are not as big and don't get the
national and regional acts. Recently I caught Don Dokken and Trixter
at the Lost, a fairly impressive show. Not too long ago Babylon AD
was there. The Masters of Reality did many gigs here before they
went national. There is no room for top 40 here at the "Lost Whore
Zone" as it is sometimes referred to. It can be a somewhat seedy
place but things never seem to get too far out of line.
I actually caught Bon Jovi at this club for the 7800 Farenheit tour
and it was a great deal for only $6! Maybe it's cuz it was in a rowdy
club, but BJ didn't seem to be leaning toward the LGTB's like when
they got big (then little again). Bad English packed the place as well.
Of course local acts get their shot at the stage. Lesser acts can
take their turn on Thursday which is showcase night, three bands and
cheap admission (cuz the bands don't get paid! Bands that do well tend
to work their way up on the schedule. Success in Syracuse (as far as
original H_M goes) is getting a opening slot for a major act at the
Lost or at least headlining on a weekend.

most clubs around town! They ripped down the side railings/leaning
posts that used to cramp the stage front area and obstruct views.
They also removed the seats and tables from the right side of stage.

This gives much more open space in the front area and as already
    	noted improves lines of site.

The new stage is much better and a more appropriate height. I think
the old one was about two feet off the floor.

I ended up seeing the Neats reunion last Friday at the ML/Bunratty's.
From what I had heard/read was being done, I was surprised. I thought
the place was gonna be all cleaned up. Most definitely an improvement for
viewing the show. It's still kinda messy though... which is actually ok.

Well, I checked out Mama Kin's for the first time last night. It is on
Lansdowne Street and is pretty cool. The main room with the stage is
pretty small though. Much narrower than say the House of Blues making
for a tougher view of the stage (which is pretty low, too). Someone
should ban TALL people from going to club shows! :^)

Typical setup. Stage at far end. Bar along the left side. Some
booths along the front and right walls.

Crowd was young...mostly college types. I bet many of them didn't even
know who they were going to see! 19+ in effect last night.

Opening band was "Talk to Animals". I hadn't heard of them before....
lead singer kinda reminded me of a Eddie Brickell (sp?) but a bit
    heavier.

Main act Pete Droge. Quality sound. Fun interaction with crowd. Some
nice guitar work including a 'guest' who's name I didn't get.

Oh...a couple more things about Mama Kin's:

There was some cool memorabilia around but the place was too crowded to
    get a good look.

And I didn't get a chance to go anyplace other than the main room
although I've heard there are supposed to be two or three areas within
the club with different 'atmospheres' (where I don't know!)

They have TV's over the bar so I got to see the Bruins lose in OT, but
then Pete Droge stopped his show and asked that the TV's be shut off
cuz they were 'distracting'....he felt moved to go buy some
    alkaseltzer.

Checked out a Harcore/punk thing at the "Kaleidoscope" in downtown
Worcester on Sunday. The paper labeled it, "The Mother's Day Massacre"
(that should clue you into what's up with this show).

This place is WEIRD. They open some nights to under-21 and they've
got a bar for those of age. The decor and sound... just strange as
    hell. Defintely Worcester's newest HOLE-in-the-wall.

I used to go to this club in Miami Beach called Club Nu. They would
re-decorate every so often. One time they had all "phallic" symbols
protruding from the walls, quite different...

We were supposed to be lining up a gig there but the other band
heard rumors that it was home to shall we say the 'sexually
alternative'. Seems like the phallic symbols you were talking
about are further clues to support that claim ;)

A few of the guys in the band have gone down to check it out but
said the sound and room were really crappy. SMC is still the best
hole in the wall as far as Worcester is concerned. Although Sean
our singer really thought the place was cool and that we should
play there...which is just another reason NOT to play there...since
we usually do the exact OPPOSITE of whatever the singer suggests ;)

It's nothing like Ralph's in terms of things standing out to
catch your eye...it's just very small, very dark, and very loud
    with substandard sound at best.

Last Sunday there were more people from Boston than from Worcester.
