I always wanted to set up 5 marshall stacks, then with a wireless
control and the guitar tuned to an open a minor chord, drop the
guitar (chord ringing) from the top of the of the world trade center.

| | OK, here's a pretty legitimate question:

Is there room in today's HM for a guitarist to play slide?

Can anyone think of a HM band that uses slide? (I know Blackmore
does, and Page used to, but I'm talking about the newer HM that
    is out today.)

Or is slide still considered mainly a blues instrument?

Micky Moody used to play slide for Whitesnake. He was pretty good
and made effective use of it in a rock band (although Whitesnake
had a blusey side to them).

Apparently Rudolf Shenker plays slide guitar on the "Savage Amusement"
album but I fail to find anything that stands out and grabs me be the
    b****.

There is a song by Mtley Cre (Jerry knows the name of it) that
has a lot of slide in it. I usta really get off on the Allman Bros.
and other assorted southern bands, but never did much with a hunka
glass or steel... Hey, if it sounds metal, then DO IT !

| | This is probably a pretty lame trick, but I like it...

Didja ever listen to "Look What The Cat Dragged In" by Poison ?
At the end of the first lead break, the dude grabs an open string
and dive-bombs it. When he "comes back up" with it, he taps a 5th
fret harmonic... Sounds nifty. Easy, and hot_soundin'...

    Re: -1

Kind a cheesy lick there JC. Here's one that sounds better. Dive
bomb a G harmonic at the 12th fret, as you come up place your finger
at the 5th fret and get the next octave G (you need not repick it,
it should still ring with enough attack/gain). Then start to dive
bomb the `new' G and place your finger just after the 1st fret and
get the third octave G harmonic. It cool, like G harmonics flying
    everywhere!

Keep right on showing me some new stuff though, I'll try anything

I imagine you all have done this one...

Another related trick (admittedly cheezy) is to bend a note with
the left hand, then tap in the octive harmonic with the right.
You get the original tone plus a harmonic that'll follow the bend
as it's returned to pitch. Sounds pretty cool.

which he attributed to Joe Satriani. Take the B string under your
left hand fingernail and pull it off the neck and around the back.
Makes a cool sound as it hits the sucessive frets.

Do you do Jimi Hendrix stuff behind your head ?

I kinda like playing my axe whilst pointing the neck towards the
audience out in front of me... While it's slightly phallic in nature,
it mends well with banging your head. I like to put my foot up
on the monitor too, and kinda play off to the side whilst bangin'...

Seems like the boize in Cinderella like to throw their axes around
their neck... I don't trust my strap locks that much, and beleive
me, don't try it without STRAP LOCKS !

    Any other ideas ?

.13 WHERE you play your guitar ?

In the living room, in my bedroom, in the study and in the Garden

You know in DLR's "Just like paradise" video, where Vai spins the
guitar round his body, well I've always considered trying to learn
that in my garden (no room indoors) but two things stopped me:

    a) My strap doesn't permit my guitar to go right around my body
     	without tying me in nots.

    b) Murphys law says that my guitar strap will snap and my guitar
will end up in either of two places: 1) On the garage roof 2) in
     	the fish pond.

What about the bit in Whitesnakes "Gimmie all your love tonight"
video, where Vandenburg is swinging his axe round his head. Wouldn't
it be amusing if his hand was slightly sweaty and......Could you
imagine Coverdale with a guitar body in his mouth???

Rudy Sarzo has an anoyig habbit of playing his bass behind his head.

Cool trick for acoustic stuff - fret open chords and use your right
hand to slap and pop octave harmonics in the same way a bass player
would. Somewhat more percussive effect than what would be achieved on
a bass and looks cool if you get it going fast enough.

More impressive than playing "Stairway to Heaven" at your local music
    store 8^)
