There's supposed to be some backwards messages in one or more
        of Stxy's songs, but I don't recall the name(s).

And who can forget 'The Mr. Ed Theme'!! Someone (probably
Tipper Gore, when she was playing her daughter's records
and plugged the player in backwards) realized that this song
mentioned 'the devil' and made quite a fuss about it within
the last year and a half. Who'd'a thought, huh?

Usually, I think people just wanna put HM down even more
than they already have (which is DAMN near impossible) and
they play records backwards and use their imagination and
tell the world what they perceive the words to be. This is
a big crock of bull-puckey. They just think they're hear-
ing Satanic messages when all they're hearing is incoherent
drivel (such as the likes of most of the content of MUSIC).

But let 'em keep kicking us ... 'cause eventually they'll
realize that there's NOTHING they can do to keep us from
        listening to our music.

| | They can say what they want about the intelligence of headbangers.
At least we know which direction to play our records and tapes.
In my opinion, the people who play these songs backwards
looking for hidden Satanic messages are the demented ones in the
first place. They probably watch videos in reverse to see if there
are any hidden sex scenes 8^b!!!!! You can always imagine
some message if you are trying real hard to find one. How does
someone get a nickname like "Tipper" anyway? Too many wine coolers?

| 71.6 | We tested this back about '82 | CSC32::G_HOUSE | Greg House - CSC/CS | Thu May 26 1988 10:35 | 32 |
| | Funny someone should bring this up. When I was in college, my roomate
actually taped one of those radio preachers flaming about satanic
backwards messages. His *BIG* example was a section of Stairway
to Heaven. The guy was so obviously biased that it was sickening.

What my friend did was get a whole bunch of people from the dorm
together in our room to listen to this. There were over 30 guys in
there (really crowded). He played just the excerpt from the song
backwards, about 3-4 times, and asked everyone to listen carefully and
    write down what they heard.

Every SINGLE person in there heard something different! And not one of
them was even CLOSE to what this guy on the radio was claiming it said.
AND, NONE of them thought it said anything about Satan or anything else
    evil or nasty at all!

What the radio preacher was doing was telling you what to listen for,
then playing the clip. Naturally, having that setup, you'd hear it,
but without the extra 'help' you'd never get what he thought.

After everyone said what they thought they heard, we played the
clip, with the lead-in. At this point, most of them said something
like, 'Yeah, I *guess* you might hear that, but I still thought it
said Mmmble mmble, like I said before'. He also played it for a
couple of people, complete with the leadin without letting them
hear it first, and they said it sounded like what the guy said it
    said.

I'll leave it to you to make your own individual interpretations
of this experiment. I've already made mine.

Then there's Queen - Another one bites the dust.
For those of you who have it, listen to it and
see what your hear. If you don't have it, this
                is what I believe it says . . .

It says something like "I like to smoke
marijuana". It's pretty unmistakable I believe.

    	"It's fun to smoke marijuana"

I listened to it many years back when I saw a show about heavy
metal and back masking. Even though they said it was the above
quote I still couldn't really hear it.
