| | If I had to start over I'd go with:
Back in Black : awesome all the way through
Piece of Mind : Iron Maiden
Van Halen I & II : Need I say More
    Blackout: A personal favorite
Under Lock and Key: Gotta have some Goerge Lynch

Any of these would be good to get you goin' I consider them to be
favorites of mine, but maybe you'd like to start with recent stuff.
    It's upta u.

The dog has spoken well and truely. One should enter
the metal scene slowly, lest one find oneself lost in a
phantasm of metalness. Some of the older stuff makes a
good springboard into more progressive metality, which
is beyond a beginner (see: MOSH=ANTHRAX).

If you can't get into VH I and II, you are beyond hope.
If Back In Black doesn't jar your bones, they're pinned
    	together too tightly for metal.

I have listened to Back in Black, and occasionally I crave something
even heavier. Not thrash, but Heavy Metal. Thanks for your help,
but now I'll be broke bying this stuff. :-)

PS: What do most Heavy Metalists think about Jimi Hendrix?

Actually, I have seen quite a few Hendrix albums that were
released after his death. Some of them contain previously
unreleased stuff (though when you hear it, you know why it
was unreleased). The problem is that there was only so much
of the uncirculated stuff to go around, and once that petered
out, so did the new Hendrix albums. Haven't seen any new ones
now for nearly a decade. Time sorta creeps past, doesn't it?

I need some help here. And who better to give than the resident
experts, huh? A friend came to me the other day, (ok it was yesterday)
and asked if i could make some kind of a tape, as an introduction to
metal. Now I'm not totally sure of what to put on it, so I would like
some opinions. Not to offend anyone, but he wants HEAVY METAL, not
groups like poison or warrant, cause he can here them on the radio.
He's so used to Classical and doesn't want a talentless tape, soooo
Just throw some ideas this way.... I'll incorporate what i hear.
Now remember this tape is only 110 minutes long, so I can't put
everyone's suggestion in. After i make the tape I'll post what ones I
put on. the only limit is one band can only have a maximum of 2 songs
    on the tape.... and thanks!!!

| | We're dealing here with a total newcomer, I assume. So I think we need a good
spread of stuff from the last 20-odd years (and some of them have been very
odd indeed!).
Straight off the top of my head come these:
Deep Purple	Smoke on the Water (from Made in Japan)
Deep Purple	Child in Time (ditto)
Black Sabbath	Paranoid or Iron Man (from Paranoid)
Black Sabbath	Wheels of Confusion or Supernaut (from Vol IV)
	Motorhead	Orgasmatron (from Orgasmatron)
Motorhead	Ace of Spades or Radod Crew (from Ace of Spades)
Sacred Reich	The American Way (from American Way?)
Metallica	Sad but True or Enter Sandman (from Metallica)
Metallica	anything of the first three albums
Testament	Practice what you Preach (from Pratice what you preach)
Iron Maiden Run to the Hills (I foget which album)
Iron Maiden	The Ancient mariner (from Powerslave)
Robert Plant	Manic Nirvana (from Manic Nirvana)
	Jimi Hendrix	anything
Megadeth	Peace Sells... (from Peace Sells But Who's Buying)
Well. There's a few to get you started. I'll have a dig around in the
collection over the next couple of days and see what else I can uncover
(especially around bands like Overkill, Anthrax, and Megadeth, and Judas
Priest).
Have fun,
	Keef.

True ... old VH classifies as `stuff your parents wouldn't approve of'
but I never really considered VH as metal. Old Sabbath was the mother
    of all metal (IMO) ...

| | Actually one of the heaviest songs I can think of is called "Halo of
Flies" off Killer. It's got tempo changes and a real heavy beat.

Just a little conflict about the true roots of metal????

Not to be offensive to anyone's taste, but there won't be any Motley on
this tape except, something offa'shout'. VH is a long shot too....

    Keep them comin' guys/gals
