    Cost: 6.99
    Running time: 30 mins approx
Tracks: 6 (one is repeated though, so 5 different)

    1>
Well, first off they showed clips of them filming videos with "Give
me all your Love tonight" playing in the background. Things like
DC and HTK kernoodling again, flowing long blonde hair, posing and
lots of directors running around, trying to look funny.

    2>
Second, (And in my opinion one of the best tracks to come out of
1987 (the year, not the album) "Still of the night".

This had an abundance of pelvic thrusts on the part of Sarzo, and
Vandenberg does his Jimmy Page bit with a Violin bow. Poor old
Vivian Campbell is bobbing up and down like a yoyo, trying hard
to look like a poser, but failing miserably - however, as he is
the better guitarist of the two and does just about all the solo's
on the video, he is excused. D.C's mean/moody look is in fine form.

    3>
Next on the bill is "Here I go again". This is an absolutely terrible
version!!!!!!! bring back the HIGA of "Saints an' Sinners". Again,
lots of DC/HTK, and its at this point that there kernoodling becomes
    nauseating. Boring really!

    4>
Then there is "Is this Love". More kernoodling - Arrrghhhhhh!!!!!
Lots more posing and Sarzo's dyed his hair. Me and my girlfriend
are now convinced that Vandenberg was a donkey in a previous life.

    5>
Then they did "Gimmie all your love tonight...Live" this was the
_only_ video without HTK, and to be honest, although I didn't like
the track that much, this video was the best of the lot. I _think_
it was filmed at Wembly Arena at one of the December dates (If you
look hard enough you'll see me :-). Again lots of pelvic thrust
fro all except poor old VC, who is slogging his guts out playing
the solo's, and Tommy Aldridge the drummer, who has very little
coverage anyway so even if he was posing, you wouldn't have seen him!!
I must say though that Vandengerg's thrusts had slowed down now
and then, when he had to be the occasional note/chord. One
particularly revolting bit involves old Sarzo licking his guitar.
Hmmmm. , maybe its coz HTK 'ain't around to do it for him.

    6>
They then showed more live footage and the credits with the best
track of the video "Love ain't no Stranger".

    Marx out of ten?????????

    Title: Whitesnake - Donington Park
    Cost: 9.99
    Running time: 55 mins

This was recorded live at Castle Donington (England) on 20
August 1983 and is a complete opposite of the last one I
    reviewed - f****** brilliant!!!!

None of this pelvic thrust lark. David Coverdale, Micky Moody,
Cozy Powell, John Lord, Collin "Bomber" Hodgkinson and Mel Galley
explode through the real classic stuff that gave Whitesnake the
    reputation it used to have.

Playlist (I think I've missed one out though):
    1) Walking in the shadow of the blues
    2) Rough and Ready
    3) Ready and Willin'
    4) Lovehunter
    5) Mistreated
    6) Solder of fortune
    7) Ain't no Love (in the heart of the city)
    8) Fool for your lovin'
    9) We wish you well

Lovehunter features an excellent blues solo with his slide guitar,
but David Coverdales voice is a bit off now and then, but this has
gotta be real value for money, and a must for any 'snake fan.

I'm not sure if the video of "give me all your love tonight"
is the same as the one they released for MTV as the one described
in reply one but the one that is being showed on MTV was definetly
shot at two shows at the Centrum in Worcester, Ma and yes I'm in
it i had second row left center and I have a video copy and can
point out myself and friends a total of two times . Well that's

| | I thought the movie HEAVY METAL was done extremely well. All the
music seemed to fit the scenes. The soundtrack itself is an excellent
collection of metal tunes. Does anyone know where I can pick up
a copy of this movie, in stereo? I've got a mono copy made from
HBO about 5 years ago. I have the soundtrack on record but combining
it with the video would be impossible. It just isn't THE WALL.

| | I rented "Van Halen - Live Without A Net" this weekend and played
it about 4 times. It's got more than just good music, it's fun
to watch because these guys really have a good time together. It's
got a "fair" drum solo from Alex, more jungle sounds than flash.
Michael Anthony does a bass solo with loads and gobs of effects,
it hardly even sounds like a bass ! And then there's Eddie....the
rest must be heard, and seen ! Hagar does justice and then some
to all of the pre-Van Hagar tunes like Panama, Ain't Talkin' Bout
Love, etc. They also do a LOT of material off of 5150, naturally,
and even do some Hagar tunes (I can't Drive 55). They close the
show with Rock and Roll of Led Zeppelin fame, and it cooks !!
Being a big Van Halen fan and NOT a David Lee Roth fan (Hear 'Em
And Puke !) I thoroughly enjoyed it and whether you're a musician
or not I think you'll like it !!!

| |
If you haven't seen 'Dio - live at the Spectrum (PA)' then
do so. If you like your music hard and heavy then this is
        definitely for you.

Dio is his usual incredible-sounding self here, backed by
Jimmy Bain on bass, Vinnie Appice on drums, and the one-of
-a-kind Viv Campbell wielding the 'axe'.

He does all the stuff you'd expect him to ...

Stand Up and Shout, Rainbow in the Dark, Heaven and Hell (from
the Black Sabbath days), Egypt(Chains), The Mob Rules (another
Black Sabbath song), Don't Talk to Strangers, The Last in Line,
        Mystery, and a few more.

Viv breaks up 'Heaven and Hell' with an incredibly performed
solo, complete with lighted guitar. And Vinnie does likewise
        on the drums.

He also has a great laser show, the laser spelling 'DIO' on
        the stage behind him.

An honorable mention to Claude Schnell for his keyboard offer-
        ings.

I picked up a copy of Priest's video compilation. I thought it
was cool. It has video tracks for eight songs from 1979 to Turbo.
It's got a real neat track for Turbo Lover, and the stereo quality
    is amazingly good.

Now, for all you Harley Lovers, I got some bad news for ya; Each
JP track is broken by the band riding by on their bikes. Funny
thing though, unless Harley has come out with DOHC in-line four,
they were all riding Honda's and Kawasaki's ! I guess Priest decided
they'd make their mark with rice ! Agagagagagagaaaaa

| | This video of MSG was filmed in 1983 just before this line up of
the band split up. The band included Micheal Shenker(Guitar), Gary
Barden (vocals), Chris Glen (base) and Ted McKenna(sp? drums). The
Video last 60 minutes and includes the following songs:-

Captain Nemo Are You Ready To Rock
    Desert Song Armed & Dangerous
Into the Arena Attack of the Mad Axeman
Rock Will Never Die Doctor Doctor

There are a few more songs that I cant remember at present.
If you like Shenker then this video is a must, it has been produced
with the guitar slightly overshadowing the other instruments.
The high point of the video is the encore "Doctor Doctor" where
Micheal's brother Rudy (scorpions) and also the singer from the
    Scorpions join them on stage.
    Cost - 9.99

| | What makes a good heavy metal/rock video in your eyes, is it loads
of semi clad females (or for you ladies, the semi clad band members).
Lots of live concert footage, lots of just the band in a studio.
A concept or storyline or will the music do on it's own without

        Britney Fox - "Girlschool"
Femme Fatale - "Waiting for the Big One"

that is featured throughout the video). Scantily clad is
OK, but I'd rather see on ewith something nice looking on.

I also like 'story-line' videos that have concert footage
        included.

| | Sometimes I find that in a video if you only get to see a few shots
of the band live it wets your appetite and you end up willing the
video to get onto the next live shot. From what i have seen of Judas
Priest's videos they seem to do pretty well on storyline and live
footage action, now they aren't a band i go ape about yet but i do
like to watch their videos. Iron Maiden seem to be about the best
at different ideas, but i think due to the strength of the music
there is plenty of room for manouevre. You certainly know what your
gonna get in a Kiss video anyhow.

| | Alot of good footage of the band, from all perspectives and angles
(I think the Bon Jovi video Bad Medicine has alot of good perspectives,
because the fans in the audience have the cameras (I know, I know,
I like the song too, so hang me)).

The women add alot of nice dimensions. *sigh*

I like to have the camera in one place for afew seconds, anyway.
I don't like to see a blur on the screen!

I dunno. Lotsa stuff. The most important thing in a good HM video
is obvious. A good tune!!! (Imagine if Stairway to Heaven was
a video too when it first came out? It would've been a BILLION

Depending on the song, band, etc. A story line is
good. Off the top of my head, I can think of Poison's
Fallen Angel video. The daughter wants to go to

| | Everyone stop ragging on the Metallica vid! It wasn't meant to be
good. Most of the footage is from fans who bootlegged the show. The
good parts were done professionally, obviously.
The Jane's Addiction vid is cool. Really funny and quite an odd
    experience.
The Crue video is really good. It's funny, put together well, and
    a lot of good music.
Another cool one is Hear N Aid. That was the metal version of We
Are the World. There's a lot of interviews with a lot of metal dudes,
and they show all the musicians putting together their parts. Vocals,
LOTS of guitar solos (Y.J. Malmsteen, George Lynch, Vivian Campbell,
etc...) and more. We're Stars is the song, and it's good.

    					That's it.

The Hard 'N Heavy video is made by a British firm I believe.

There are two volumes out at the moment and is packed with interviews
and stuff. Its pretty good (I have them both). DON'T expect it to
contain lots of promo videos - it contains a few but its not video
    compilation tape.

    Still good stuff.

Not Anthrax, but I got S.O.D. live at Lamours. Poor quality, but

    Ozzt tapes... Anthrax....Queensryche...Iron Maiden.

    	I think they're a good idea...only after a band has "made it"

Like Metallica. They made no vid's till they were popular.
They didnt use the vid market to help boost their image. Should
    they??

I never get tired of the early Iron Maiden footage I have. It's weird
though...the Eddy seems to be from the first album (the ones on stage
and the animated one at the end of the video) but they do Killers and
Wrathchild. Most of the stuff is from the first album.

    Strange.

| 12.39 | I wish more bands would do them | LITE::G_HOUSE | and sleep comes maybe Monday night | Wed Oct 18 1989 19:17 | 13 |
| | I think that video tapes of bands (concerts, not collections of MTV
reject videos) are great. It gives people a chance to watch live
music, even if they live in an area where they can't actually go see
them, or can't afford the incredibly inflated cost of actually
attending a concert by a major artist these days.

You guys in the New England area really have it good as far as the
selection and frequency of good concerts there. Denver has good ones
too, I'm not complaining for myself, but there are a lot of areas where
they don't get a good show but maybe a couple of times a year. The
    videos really fill in there!

| | Hello,
I've seen yesterday evening on MTV's Headbanger Ball the new "Smoke on the
water" video clip dedicated to Armenia help after last year's earthquake.
The clip is heavy metal group oriented and it features many great stars like:
Ian Gillan, Bruce Dickinson, Richie Blackmore, Brian May, Roger Taylor,
David Gilmour and others which I have not recognized.
The clip is ok and "Smoke on the water" is very good even compared to the
original. Don't miss it.

| | Ok.. I got the impression his message less about multiple, distinct
personalities and more about what Hetfield sings about in Sad But
True -- about our inner selves, the good parts and the bad parts; the
many facets of our selves. OK, schizophrenia if you wanna coin it that.

Well been awhile since anyone has written in this note, anyways:

Saw a video a few days ago on Much Music (Canadian MTV eh!) wanted to
find out the name of the group (missed it). The video was about a band
looking for a bass player, had some 'stars' in it: Sting at the end,
Gilbert Godfried, Gene Simmons (trying out for the bass position but
was told they were looking for a person with more experiance..) and I
think the grandfather from the munsters.... ooookk anyways:

Anyone know the name of this band/song?
(Music is more alternative than metal I guess, but since I read this
conf regularly, might as well post it here.........)

I think the name of the band is Stuttering John. I know that's the
singers name anyway. It's the guy from the Howard Stern show (on TV) who
always asks celebrities all kinds of explicit questions, while he
    stutters through it all.

I don't remember the name of the song.
